Phoneme blending activities<br />
Phoneme blending is the ability to combine spoken phonemes into words.<br />
Sound riddles<br />
Play a sound blending game with the pupils.<br />
1. Think of a word and say the separate sounds that make up the word; <strong>for</strong> example, /t/ /r/ /u/ and /k/<br />
<strong>for</strong> truck.<br />
2. The pupils listen to the sounds and combine them to make the word truck.<br />
3. Begin by using shorter words and increase the difficulty with longer words. (See the lists below.)<br />
4. Allow the pupils to think of their own words to share with the class in the same manner.<br />

2. After each pupil thinks of a word, have him or her say it slowly to determine the individual sounds.<br />
3. Invite each pupil, in turn, to say each sound in the word as classmates try to guess it.<br />
