WELCOME FROM THE HEADTEACHER
Welcome to the Staff Handbook for 2018‐19.
We have collected here a wealth of information in a format which we hope is easy to refer to throughout the
year, and contains just the right level of detail staff will need on a day to day basis. It is impossible to outline
every policy and procedure here in depth, so please ask if you get stuck!
If you are a new member of the team, a very warm welcome and I hope that you enjoy your time here. You will
already have experienced the kindness and support for each other that is a key part of life at King Edward VI. I
hope you are feeling excited about working with such a wonderful staff who come together for the benefit of
the whole community.
We have spent a good deal of time defining our vision for the school as well as our values. These govern our
strategic objectives, which are:
To inspire students, and equip them with the skills, confidence and qualifications required to thrive in a
changing world
To create a highly skilled and successful workforce by developing and nurturing skills and talents and
fulfilling our potential
To provide the best possible pastoral care
To embed our vision, values and ethos in all of our systems and other aspects of our work
To develop and strengthen our work with external partners to maximise student outcomes
To successfully manage our transition to an 11‐16 school
Our Core Values, and how they relate to life in the school, as well as our vision for the future, can be found on
the following pages. I hope that you find them inspiring and that they guide your work here.
As the Schola Buriensis, we have been inspiring young people in Bury St Edmunds since 1550. We are proud of
our status as a Church of England school, our history and the role we play in our wider community. Thank you
for the crucial part that you play in helping to maintain and develop this formidable and enviable tradition.
