RISE AND SHINE
Josella Scriven took this photo on her way
to work, at 5.45am, towards the end of July.
“I know, that’s very early, but I wouldn’t have
got this shot if I hadn’t caught the sun rising,
so some good came out of the bad!” she says.
“I was lucky, I normally cycle, but that day I
decided to walk, so I went across Malling Rec,
rather than using the road.”
“I’ve got an iPhone7, and I chose that phone
because it had a good 12mp camera. I love
taking pictures: there are about 3,000 on my
phone at the moment, I’ve got a lot of deleting
to do!” Josella is half Swiss, so “a lot of my
pictures are taken when I go back home to see
my family, in the mountains, and in the old
town of Basel.”
The original was a bit flatter in tone, so she
“put some filters on it to add colour. I showed
a photographer friend to check, and he approved.
It’s made it look a bit more autumnal,
but since it’s going in the September issue, I
suppose that’s apt.”
And what’s Josella going to do with the £20
she’s won? “I’ll probably take my mate Dec to
lunch,” (see pg 13).
