STROKE GROUP
“Eight months ago, I had a stroke, leaving me with my
left side paralysed,” says Jacqui Dawson, who is hoping
to form a support group for Lewes people who have
been or are going through the same experience. Her
recovery has been positive since, but the whole episode
came “out of the blue; it was a big shock for me, my
friends and my five children.”
Jacqui lives on her own, so “recovery has been hardgoing
at times, and isolating and lonely, too.”
She realised it might have been a lot easier if she knew
people who could relate to her illness, “so I got the
idea of starting a group, exchanging ideas about coping
strategies: for example I’ve found acupuncture to be
very good. But not just for that, it could be something
of a social group, too, meeting up once a month, or once
a fortnight.”
If anyone would like to meet up with Jacqui for a coffee
to discuss this further, please do get in touch, via e-mail:
