The Pharmacy Degree
affords one the
opportunity to pursue
whatever one dreams.
”
I have shared this with
future, current, and graduate
pharmacy students over
decades of mentorship. I
share it with our pharmacy
community in this, my first
article highlighting the TSHP
Pharmacy Management
Section initiatives for 2018
and 2019. It speaks to the
Section’s passion to serve our membership and our
profession.
The TSHP Pharmacy Management Section
Executive Committee engaged in a robust first
planning meeting mid-June. The Section’s initiative for
the design, in collaboration with the TSHP Education
Council, of the management CE tracks for the 2019
Annual Meeting is developing. The CE track will
focus on enhancing the value of institutional clinical
management practice covering a variety of topics. I
invite you to check back as more to come on this in
future issues.
Working with the TSHP Membership Council,
our Section, supports as an initiative, the TSHP
goal to suggest new member benefits to elevate
the value membership to our community. Employee
engagement, clinical benchmarking best practices,
measurement of clinical impact, and repositioning
the pharmacist role were discussed by the Section
Executive Committee during our first meeting. I ask
the Section membership to email me tony.palmer@
unthsc.edu or Kathryn Merkel our Section’s Chair-
Elect at KGMerkel@ascension.org with suggested
TSHP membership benefits that would assist you in
your daily challenges.
If you are interested or have questions/suggestions
regarding our TSHP Pharmacy Management Section,
please contact me or Kathryn. We look forward
to working with our fellow Pharmacy Management
professionals and the TSHP community.
Your support has impacted so many.
Your continuted contribution
will help many more.
Since 1977, the TSHP R&E Foundation has been
helping the future of pharmacy in Texas – students,
practitioners, technicians, and leaders. With each
passing year, the need increases.
A student at a typical state-supported college of
pharmacy pays:
• $10,000 per semester for tuition and fees
• An average of $250 per book
• Approximately $1,200 per
month for a dorm room
• Not to mention transportation
& living expenses
Contribution to our scholarships make all the
difference in a student’s life.
The R&E Foundation asks for your support. Help
someone in honor of those who helped you. We
are all part of a profession that recognizes the
need to nurture a strong pharmacy foundation for
each other, our patients, and for the future of our
profession.
The Foundation supports more than scholarships.
Through contributions to the R&E Administrative
Fund, we fund research grants, the annual R&E
Poster Competition and Clinical Skills & Disease
State Management Competitions, as well as
provide support for residency programs and the
annual Alcalde Southwest Leadership Conference.
We are proud to be able to gift thousands of
dollars in scholarships and awards every year,
thanks to you. Our strong future is supported
entirely by pharmacists, technicians, and friends of
pharmacy, like you, who honor the legacy of the
pharmacy profession and its leaders.
