Reporting party said when he goes outside, he can hear the dog barking inside the home. Officer advised him it is not a violation for dogs barking in their home. Caller reported he received a call on Wednesday at 6:31 p.m. from someone saying they are going to shoot up his house at 5 Bragg St. Officer will document. Incident was regarding a past breaking and entering, police said. A fall with a head injury was reported on Wednesday at 7:11 p.m. at 6 Foster St. Patient was taken to Beverly Hospital. A suspicious motor vehicle was reported on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. on Dark Lane. Officer reports all is in order. Caller from Kappy’s Liquor at 175 Andover St. reports she found a small baggie containing a white powdery substance that could be a packet of drugs on Wednesday at 7:19 p.m. Officer reports the bag will be brought to the station for destruction. Complaint of loud bang, possibly fireworks at Raddin Park on Wednesday at 9:15 p.m. Officer spoke with parties who said they would not shoot anymore fireworks that night. On Thursday at 7:15 a.m. report of a large pothole at 84 Lynnfield St. and 74 County St. Officer reports the Department of Public Works was contacted. A report of gunshots at 8:11 p.m. Friday on Wilson Square. An officer reported smelling smoke consistent with fireworks. A report of a neighborhood dispute at 8:22 p.m. Saturday at 11 Quarry Terrace. A caller reported his dog has been sick ever since his neighbor placed a device on the fence that was allegedly used to control his dog’s barking. Police forwarded the complaint to the animal control officer. Overdose A report of an overdose at 6:16 p.m. Friday on Sylvia Road. Narcan was used and the person was taken to Beverly Hospital. Theft A report of a larceny at 4:33 p.m. Saturday at Burlington Coat Factory at 310 Andover St. A caller reported $500 was taken from his wife’s purse. Police reported the woman was pickpocketed; at 6:09 p.m. Saturday at Aviv Center for Living at 242 Lynnfield St. A Samsung tablet was reported stolen.
SEPTEMBER 20, 2018 WEEKLYNEWS.NET - 978-532-5880 5 GLSS offering help for grandparents raising grandchildren at speaker series “Know Your Rights!,” the summer speaker series offered jointly by Greater Lynn Senior Services (GLSS) and Northeast Legal Aid (NLA), will conclude Friday, Sept. 21, with a free presentation, 3-4 p.m. at the Lynn Senior Center, on the topic of “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.” “This topic is more relevant than ever, due to the opioid Anniversary Advanced tickets NOW available thru 9/26 at TOPSFIELDFAIR.ORG Don't miss this incredible 200th Anniversary event crisis in our communities, which, unfortunately, has had a devastating impact on families,” notes Kautz Mills, GLSS’ Title III Planner. “This workshop will focus on helping individuals who may find themselves caring for their grandchildren better understand their rights and responsibilities.” The workshop will be presented by Attorney Geoffrey Ketcham from Northeast Legal Aid. GLSS is a non-profit Aging Services Access Point and Area Agency on Aging serving people age 60 and older and adults living with disabilities in Lynn, Lynnfield, Nahant, Saugus, and Swampscott. As a designated Area Agency on Aging, GLSS receives funding for what are called “Title III” programs, including funding for legal services. “GLSS and Northeast Legal Aid have been working together for a number of years to provide free assistance to very low-income people age 60 and older, who are facing legal challenges with limited means to defend themselves,” Kautz Mills says. “This speaker series seemed like a natural offshoot of that shared mission, providing an opportunity to bring legal information and guidance to adults of all ages in the community.” NLA provides free civil legal services to low-income and elderly individuals in Essex and Northern Middlesex counties in Massachusetts. NLA has offices in Lawrence, Lowell and Lynn. Services provided are in the practice areas of elder, family, immigration, housing, public benefits and employment, consumer protection, and community development. Update from the LCWD Addressing Customer Concerns The Lynnfield Center Water District (hereinafter the “District”) is committed to providing safe, clean drinking water to its ratepayers. In recent months, the District has been receiving complaints of discolored water by a limited number of ratepayers in localized areas of the District. The water that is being produced from the District wells is continuously monitored for quality and disinfection to ensure clean and safe drinking water. The water, in these wells, contains naturally-occurring minerals including iron and manganese. While the water is being pumped to your homes, these minerals adhere to the sides of the pipes. During times of high demand, hydrant flushing, water main breaks and firefighting activities, customers may experience some discolored water due to flow direction changes. Changes in flow can disturb these minerals causing them to be sent to customers’ taps. If you have discolored water, flush your cold water taps until the water runs clear to ensure the water is safe for drinking. The District has always tested the water pursuant to the rigorous requirements of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (hereinafter “DEP”). Iron and Manganese are naturally-occurring minerals found in water supplies that utilize ground water wells, which are drilled into aquifers. The DEP regulates the allowable levels of these naturally-occurring minerals in drinking water supplies. The District has been monitoring the levels of iron and manganese throughout the distribution system and will inform the customers if any health concerns were to arise. To address these recent concerns the District has instituted a three-part response to the discolored water: I. The District has sought the services of the global engineering firm, CDM Smith, to engineer a new filtration plant to further reduce the mineral deposits into the water supply. This plan will be presented for approval to the ratepayers of the District in a special district meeting in October 2018. Upon approval by the ratepayers, pursuant to state law, the plan will be submitted to the DEP for its approval. II. The District has purchased advanced flushing equipment and has scheduled extensive flushes of the District water lines, which will reduce some of the iron and manganese mineral buildup inside the District’s water lines. Once the seasonal demand has been reduced, said flushing will occur. The flushing is currently scheduled for September 2018, assuming the water demand has returned to normal levels. III. The District, at its August 27, 2018, meeting voted to provide a one-hundred-dollar ($100.00) rebate program to any ratepayer of the District for the purchase of a home water filtration system. The District also voted to provide a one- hundred-dollar ($100.00) rebate to any ratepayer of the District for the plumbing services necessary for the installation of the home filtration system.
