Coach Andrew Auimatagi believes the halfback’s national premiership debut was the best he had ever seen as a rugby league coach. The 19-year-old from Greymouth played a starring role as the Bulls beat the Counties- Manukau Stingrays 20-18 at Mt Smart Stadium on Sunday. He set-up the first try, had a pin-point kicking game and was flawless on defence as he marshalled the Bulls to a rare victory in Auckland. Not bad for a player who was not in the initial squad named in July. “It was one of the best debuts I’ve see in my time as a coach,” Auimatagi said. “His poise and play, the way he performed under that sort of pressure for the first time was outstanding. “He’s the right fit for our team.” Campbell was back at his day job as an apprentice linesman on the West Coast on Monday, He had played under-18 rugby league for Hornby in 2017 before the end of top-flight rugby league in brief McLean in form for Asia Pacific amateur Canterbury golfer Matt McLean is in sublime form leading up to the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Singapore next month. Douglas fractured his right thumb in Sunday’s 29-34 loss to Auckland and will require surgery. The No 8 will be unavailable for the remainder of the season, meaning Mitchell Drummond will resume the captaincy. “Obviously it’s a shame for him. The one-week suspension incurred by boom centre Latrell Mitchell has left the Tricolours needing to settle on a new goalkicker ahead of their grand final qualifier. Taukeiaho lasted just 8min of the team’s qualifying final win over Cronulla in week one of the finals before limping from the field. He has been named to start at prop against South Sydney. On Tuesday, Taukeiaho told NRL.com he had not run since incurring the injury but was confident it wouldn’t keep him from playing. “It was good to get the win against Cronulla so we got the week off. It’s been about getting as much recovery as possible but also getting some training in,” he said.
