Thinking fast with Kingspan Kooltherm
A new special education and training college dedicated to the
future of the UK’s rail industry, The National College for High Speed
Rail, is the latest project to benefit from the outstanding thermal
performance of the Kingspan Kooltherm K110 Soffit Board.
The facility is as energy efficient as possible and, in line with
funding guidance from BIS and the Skills Funding Agency, a
BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ has been targeted for the new
development. A fabric first approach was adopted and several
Kingspan Kooltherm products were specified across the site.
The main entrance features a cantilevered upper floor, and to
insulate this, Kingspan Kooltherm K110 Soffit Board was installed.
The product is a premium performance insulation board
comprising an advanced fibre-free rigid thermoset phenolic
insulation core, with a thermal conductivity of 0.018 W/m·K across
all board thicknesses. It also offers excellent fire protection.

LED system delivers significant savings
When the North Cheshire Jewish Primary School in Cheadle
decided to upgrade its lighting system, it turned to Vickers -
Manchester’s leading supplier of bespoke energy saving lighting
and lighting systems. The subsequent installation of a new LED
system not only transformed the school’s key learning areas into
bright and vibrant environments, it helped achieve substantial
energy savings too.
Vickers designed and developed a bespoke solution; in addition to
panels, downlights, IP54 round bulkheads and the company’s own
Graphene lamps by Symsis - one of the first Graphene lamps
available in the UK - a series of battens, IP65 anti-corrosives by
Hilclare were specified. Emergency exit signs and bulkheads, and
external IP66 bulkheads by Eaton, were also included.
In total, 434 LED
lamps and
luminaires were
installed by
Vickers;
providing a
lifespan of
around 30,000
to 50,000
hours, and all
work was
completed on
time and within
budget.

Vortice expands its commercial fan offering
Burton upon Trent
based ventilation
specialist, Vortice,
has expanded its
commercial fan
offering in the UK in
response to
customer demand.
The commercial
collection includes
extract fans
incorporating
constant pressure
control, heat
recovery units with counter crossflow plate heat exchangers and
thermal wheel.
These additions to the range extend the flexibility that Vortice can
offer to projects like offices, schools, care homes and shopping
centres.
Sales Manager Paul Gunner said: “Vortice has traditionally offered a
select range of commercial products to the UK market, although the
company has utilised a much broader offering throughout mainland
Europe and Latin America. Over the last twelve months we have seen
increased demand in the UK for more complex applications and have
therefore extended the range we offer here.”
As most commercial applications require a bespoke response,
