Exterior Building webermineral TF render marked 10/10 Designed to overcome delays caused by wet weather conditions and low winter temperatures during application, high performance webermineral TF render has been specified for an extension to the Poyntzpass Primary School in Newry, Northern Ireland. Concerns that the weather would delay render application were overcome with the technical attributes of webermineral TF, a throughcoloured, textured decorative finish designed for use with multi-coat render systems including Weber’s thermally efficient External Wall Insulation. This cementitious render can be applied at temperatures as low as 1°C. webermineral TF has rapid drying benefits that prevent wash-off in one hour, making it ideal for wet conditions and winter working, and achieves a durable, resilient and weather resistant finish for all year round protection, whilst weber PR310 primer reduces suction and ensures that the subsequent finish will have a minimum life of 10 years. www.netweber.co.uk Tough test for Redland Cambrian Lochwinnoch Primary School has provided a showcase for Cambrian Slate, showing how an early 1900s traditional building can still retain its original appearance using a modern slate substitute, along with traditional slate detailing. The challenge was to retain the school’s original appearance, complete with complex details such as hips, valleys, skews, the interface between flat roofs and around skylights, without costing as much as slate. Renfrewshire Council and Redland developed the answer to the challenge: Cambrian Slate, precision engineered and manufactured using 60% recycled Welsh slate. A full Redland SpecMaster roof specification was carried out, examining every aspect of the roof in detail, including raking valley details, sprocketed eaves, changes of pitch, detailing of top edge and side abutments, flat to pitch lead, ventilation at eaves and ridge, and underlay details. One area of difficulty, where the flat and pitched roof meet, included a lead secret gutter – something that was completed with immaculate results. www.redland.co.uk Student population grows at Durrington Durrington High School in Worthing has successfully completed work on its expansion, using the Kingspan TEK Cladding Panel. The Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) was specified to help target a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating and to achieve excellent fabric performance against a tight project deadline. The primary extension, situated at the heart of the school, includes laboratories, a performing arts studio, general teaching accommodation, and ancillary accommodation. 600m2 of the Kingspan TEK Cladding Panel in a 142mm thickness was installed on the steel frame by delivery partners, Thomas Carter, in the school’s three-storey ‘Courtyard’ expansion. The highly insulated core of the 142mm Kingspan TEK Cladding Panel can allow them to achieve U-values of 0.20 W/m2.K and better, whilst their OSB/3 facing and unique jointing system help to minimise unnecessary air loss. This can contribute toward the award of credits within the materials section of the BREEAM assessment. www.kingspantek.co.uk StudioGlide opens up new vistas Eurocell - the UK’s leading manufacturer, distributor and recycler of PVC-U window, door, conservatory and roofline products - is extending its range of bifold doors with the launch of StudioGlide, a breakthrough aluminium bi-fold system that promises minimal sightlines, maximum performance, and unlimited flexibility.
