General-purpose halls offers myriad uses
Western Building Systems was responsible
for the design, construction and landscaping
of the build.
“We are delighted to have handed over the
Letterkenny Educate Together National
School – the school has been totally
transformed which will hopefully benefit the
surrounding community for decades to
come,” said Shane Taggart, Contracts
Director at Western Building Systems. “The
quality of the build is something we’re really
proud of and we couldn’t have achieved it
without the dedicated local workforce we
employed to assist with the project. We
would like to thank the surrounding
community for their support throughout the
entire construction process.”
Over the duration of the project, Western
Building Systems created 22 new jobs in the
Letterkenny area.
The project included the construction of a
new three-storey building containing 24
classrooms as well as a GP Hall, a
library/resource room and other versatile
multi-purpose accommodation blocks.
The outside area was transformed to include
soft and hard play areas, three ballcourts,
foot and cycle paths, 36 bicycle spaces
contained within shelters, boundary
treatments, pedestrian and vehicle access
roads and car parking.
Improvements will also provide a more
streamlined morning and afternoon pickup
experience for parents with the addition of a
new separate vehicular entrance and exit
road from the link road providing access to a
new car park, set down/drop off zone and
turning cycle.
Western Building Systems also landscaped
the entire site to provide a safe play
environment in line with current safety
standards.
“The building itself is fantastic and has been
completed to a very high standard,” said
Áine Fabisiak, principal at Letterkenny
Educate Together National School. “It is clear
that the children were kept in mind as the
end users throughout the process, and little
touches, for example, each staircase being a
different colour, has helped to make the
children feel secure in their new
surroundings. The systems that have been
installed are user friendly and we have no
doubt that the level of aftercare which will
be provided will be of an equally high
standard.
“We look forward to expanding our school
community in the coming years and to
making the building our own.”
