Love to play music, act, sing or just
be on a stage? Explore all aspects
of performing on this course.
From ensemble musicianship,
movement and acting to singing
and musical theatre, we’ll help you
to build the confidence and skills
you need to progress.
You’ll work with other students on
a range of performance projects
in local venues as well as in our
own 200-seat theatre, celebrating
the end of year with a group
performance. We’ll also make sure
you develop wider employment
skills, including improving your
English and maths skills.
This course is ideal if you don’t yet
have the entry requirements for
our Level 3 courses, allowing you
to build up the necessary skills and
qualifications to be able to progress.
Music Production

Entry requirements
GCSE English at grades C/4 or
above, plus three other GCSE
grades at C/4 or above, preferably
including maths. Relevant
vocational qualifications at Level 2
will also be considered.
What will I learn?
If you're a budding producer with
some experience of using music
production technology and want
to take your skills and knowledge to
the next level, this is the course for
you.
Working with experienced
musicians, you'll learn how to get
the best out of music production
technology like Logic Pro in our
professional recording studios.
You'll learn how to turn simple
music ideas into finished work
ready for digital distribution or live
performance.
You could specialise in electronic
music production, songwriting, live
sound, music performance, event
management, sound engineering,
digital marketing or social media
promotions.
Commercial Dance
Level 3
Duration
2 years
Entry requirements
GCSE English at grade C/4 or
above, plus three other GCSE
grades at C/4 or above, preferably
including maths. Relevant
vocational qualifications at Level
2 will also be considered.
What will I learn?
If you’re looking for a career in
commercial dance and love
urban and street dance styles
then this is the course for you.
This practical, physical programme
focuses on urban and jazz styles,
alongside choreography and
musical theatre performance.

Level 2 will be considered. You'll
also need to pass an audition.
What will I learn?
Today’s entertainment industry
is exciting and diverse, with
performance options from
musical theatre to stand-up
comedy, from screen acting to
voicing video game characters.
Whether you aspire to star
on stage, YouTube or reality TV,
this course will provide you with
the skills and techniques to help
you achieve your goals. You will
learn and gain valuable experience
in a range of performance
techniques and develop skills in
a number of specialised areas
including acting for stage and
screen, movement/dance,
singing, improvisation, comedy,
presenting and voice-overs.
What’s more, via our
partnership with Northern
Stage you'll also complete a
residency at the theatre.

maths, or a relevant qualification at
Level 2 or appropriate experience.
What will I learn?
Exclusively delivered in partnership
with Sage Gateshead, this is the
only course in the region to provide
training in a world-class venue with
leading industry professionals.
You’ll live and breathe what it’s like
to be a professional musician. You
will develop five key areas vital to
your musical career; performance,
creativity, musicianship, technology
and enterprise.
You’ll benefit from instrumental
lessons every week, delivered by
world-class music practitioners
from Sage Gateshead and
take part in weekly live venue
performance workshops in
Sage Gateshead and other local
venues. You'll also gig at least three
times a year. You’ll study graded
music theory exams and have
the opportunity to study graded
instrumental syllabus, (RGT, LCM
and Rock School).

What will I learn?
For every star of stage and screen
there are countless others working
tirelessly backstage or behind the
camera. This course provides you
with the skills and knowledge to
embark on a career in a creative
and exciting industry.
From rigging and operating lights
and sound for live bands and
shows, to designing and building
sets for theatre and film, you will
gain experience of a wide variety
of production and design skills
including filming, editing, sound
recording, set/prop design, and
stage/business management.
What’s more, through our
partnership with Northern Stage,
we also offer you the unique
and exciting prospect of work
experience at the North East’s
largest professional producing
venue.
