PROVOST GUARD
Lots has happened since our last report in the Rajah News regarding the Provost Guard.
We had a fine showing at the Pote’s Picnic in August, as many of our members came out to help park
the cars of the picnic-goers.A few days later we were back at the Rajah Complex to assist well over one
thousand visitors for the National Night Out.
Many of the visitors came from Maidencreek and Ontelaunee Townships, Blandon and surrounding
areas to celebrate a grand night out including food and beverages and a spectacular fireworks display.
Despite the rain and clouds, a good time was had by all, and the hundreds of positive comments we
received regarding our facility and the hospitality shown by the Rajah Shriners added to the success of the
night.
From Berks County to Virginia Beach we traveled and once again the Mid-Atlantic Shrine Association held a very successful
convention in hosting the 25 member temples, their families and guests.
The parade on Saturday, September 8th was a big success, and most of us got out before the big storm hit the Virginia coastline.
We are happy to report that our President, Dennis Loch was elected and installed Lieutenant Colonel of the Mid-Atlantic
Shrine Provost Guard Association. Noble Dennis will serve for a year in that capacity before assuming the top spot next year.
Congratulations Noble Dennis.
Also, another member of the Provost Guard was honored in Virginia Beach as Noble Mike Quinn, Rajah Shrine Parade Marshal
was awarded a 3rd Place trophy for this showing in the MASA parade. Congratulations, Noble Mike.
We were also happy to serve our Potentate Jared and Rajah Shrine while assisting at the Rajah reserved parking lot for the 68th
annual Pretzel Bowl on Saturday, September 15th and at the Rajah Sportsman’s Raffle as we parked another record number of
vehicles at the South End Gun Club for this annual event.
As you read this, don’t forget the biggest feast of the year, the Provost Guard All-You-Care-To-Eat Spaghetti Dinner is on
Saturday, October 13th at the Rajah Shrine Complex. So, come one, come ALL, just $7.00 per person, eat-in or take-out, it’s your
choice, but don’t miss it. Tickets are available at the door. We’ll be serving from 3-7 p.m. Desserts will be available for purchase.
LEGION OF HONOR
At ease Nobles,
There is a bit of disturbing news that has come to the attention of your humble Adjutant. A Legion
Noble and his Lady showed up for the Pote’s Ball on August 4th. Nothing out of the ordinary here except
the Ball was on August 11th. Exactly one week later. I was asked not to make a big deal of this incident
and I promised I wouldn’t say a word. So please don’t repeat this. If only our Commander would have
checked his calendar book this wouldn’t have occurred! Please don’t feel chagrined, Commander, I’m sure
somewhere, some place another Noble showed up a week early for an event………or maybe not.
Coming up in October is our Past Commander’s Night. We would like ALL Past Commanders to present
yourselves on October 9th at our meeting. The Legion Ladies will be serving a pork and sauerkraut dinner
Dennis Hagan , on behalf of the Past Commanders. Legion Nobles, please invite your Ladies to this meeting. The meal costs
$5.00 per person. Past Commanders are free as always. This meal is for Legion of Honor members and their
Adjutant Ladies only! Please fill out your forms and return them for a meal count.
October is chock full of out of town Commander’s Balls! Saturday, October 19th is Jaffa’s Ball. Plenty of time to make it home
on Saturday the 20th for the Rajah Shrine Divan Ladies Jewelry raffle! Friday, October 26th is Syria’s Commander’s Ball and the
very next day is Zem Zem’s Ball. This works out well for the travelers, Friday attending Syria’s Ball then up Saturday morning and
heading for Erie to attend their Commander’s Ball. A busy weekend but a fun one indeed!
The Lebanon VA Burger Burn was well received by the shut-in Veterans. Chairman Barry Weisser reported around 100 people
were served by the Rajah Nobles and a handful from Zembo. They deserve a hardy Thank You for volunteering for such a worthwhile
cause. I’m sure this event will be done next year so think about getting involved!
November is fast approaching and that means NOMINATIONS! We’ll need a third Vice Commander. Our incoming Commander
will be picking his appointed Officers also. A very exciting time and Nominations Officer, PC, PMC Scott Miller will be intently
eyeing the crowd for a good prospect! My advice, don’t make eye contact!!!!
