RAJAH SHRINE SHINES AT 78TH ANNUAL<br />
MID-ATLANTIC SHRINE ASSOCIATION CONVENTION<br />
<strong>Rajah</strong> Shriners of Reading, PA, were once again a big<br />
hit at the annual gathering of the Mid-Atlantic Shrine<br />
Association during their convention held September 6-9th<br />
in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This year marks the 78th<br />
anniversary of this organization which has as its members<br />
25 Shrine Temples from the Mid-Atlantic states and<br />
also includes the Heidelberg, Germany Shrine Temple.<br />
<strong>Rajah</strong> Shrine attendees included more than 240 members,<br />
their families and guests for the 4-day get-together with<br />
meetings, competitions and parades.<br />

In the various competitions held during the weekend,<br />
the three <strong>Rajah</strong> bands, including the German Band,<br />
Concert Band and the Dance Band each scored an<br />
Excellent Rating from the judges; the <strong>Rajah</strong> Legion of<br />
Honor placed 4th at the In-Line Inspection and the <strong>Rajah</strong><br />
Chanters took First Place in the Large Group of 9 or more<br />
singers’ classification at their annual competition held Friday, while their small group of 4-8 singers placed 3rd.<br />
In the MASA parade held on Saturday, September 8th, <strong>Rajah</strong> brought home 5 trophies including: Third Place to Mike Quinn,<br />
<strong>Rajah</strong> Parade Marshal for his Arab Patrol uniform; Second Place to the <strong>Rajah</strong> Legion of Honor; Second Place to the <strong>Rajah</strong> Concert<br />
Band; another First Place trophy to the <strong>Rajah</strong> Chanters for their appearance and performance in the Parade and the First Place<br />
Chuck Gordon Special Award trophy to the <strong>Rajah</strong> String Band, as the most Outstanding Musical Unit in the entire parade, the<br />
highest award possible.<br />
On the business side, Illustrious Sir Ronald R. Klee, Jr, Past Potentate<br />
of <strong>Rajah</strong> Shrine was re-elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Mid-Atlantic<br />
Shrine Association. The Mid-Atlantic Shrine Oriental Band Association<br />
elected Donald G. Heimbecker, First Vice-President, Dennis Guinet,<br />
Sergeant of Arms and John K. Grumbein, Secretary-Treasurer; Dennis C.<br />
Loch, was elected Lieutenant Colonel of the Mid-Atlantic Shrine Provost<br />
Guard Association; Bryan D. Snyder, was re-elected Secretary and Dale<br />
C. Schimpf, was re-elected Treasurer of the MASA Band Association and<br />
David R. DeTurk, was elected Second Vice-President of the Mid-Atlantic<br />
Shrine Chanters Association.<br />
The Illustrious Sir Jared R. Kichline remarked about how proud he was<br />
of all of the <strong>Rajah</strong> units that competed and expressed his congratulations<br />
to all of the participants in the parade as they represented <strong>Rajah</strong> Shrine and<br />
said how proud he is of the various recipients of the trophies. He was glad<br />
to see that their hard work paid off and they were rewarded for their efforts.<br />
