STRING BAND
Greetings from your String Band,
Hope everyone had a great summer. It sure was a hot and wet one!
We had a work weekend for the parade float on August 18 & 19. New lights were installed, work done
on the sound system, and the new generator was installed and bugs were worked out. The interior of the
float was cleaned and painted, and some of the exterior was touched up. It looks great! Thanks to everyone
that used their time and talents to make the float look like new again.
A music committee was formed consisting of Kermit Ohlinger, Bill Bechtel and myself to work on
putting together a new parade music book. We will keep some of the old songs but add some new. The
Larry Christman new songs will be transposed for all instruments. With the busy upcoming parade season, we will probably
introduce this new format to the group and begin rehearsals during the winter break to be ready for the
March Circus.
The parade gods were looking down on us for the Shenandoah parade. It was a beautiful day, no rain and low humidity. We had
a great turn out of musicians, the float looks great, we sounded great and there was a good crowd of spectators. We drove past the
place where the best kielbasa in PA is made.
Don’t miss the upcoming String Band Picnic on Sept 30 at the Complex. Joann has worked hard organizing it and many of the
past Potes will be attending. The String Band will be playing, so bring your instruments.
We all had a great time at MASA this year. Congratulations to the String Band for taking first place trophy in the Parade.
See you at the fall parades.
Remember...there is always an open invitation for musicians to play in the String Band. Rehearsals are the second Wednesday
of each month at 7 p.m. at the Complex.
With the support of our Ladies, our purpose is that we might play our instruments so that someday a physically challenged child
may walk and play again.
