PARADE MARSHAL’S LINE-UP
Parade Marshal
Mike Quinn
Greetings from your Parade Marshal! A big “Tip of the Fez” to all the Nobles that participated in
the MASA Parade at Virginia Beach. We were 12 Units and Clubs strong. Our Rajah Contingency
definitely made an impressive showing and made our Potentate extremely proud!
This year’s competition was very tough, my congratulations to the Chanters, Concert Band,
String Band, Legion of Honor and Arab Patrol who brought home trophies. With that being said,
every Unit and Club was a big winner and should be very happy with the way we represented Rajah.
In the coming months, I will get together with the Units and Clubs to discuss their score sheets.
Unfortunately, the Tin Lizzies were not able to make the pilgrimage this year and they were
missed. Hopefully they will be able to be there with us next year! Also missing was your other
Parade Marshal, Dave Turner. Dave has made that walk with me for 9 years and wasn’t able to be
there this year. Again, hopefully he will be able to join us next year.
Your “new kid on the block” Erich Pfahl, did an outstanding job of getting everyone lined up
and kept in step as we made the stroll down Atlantic Avenue. For his first year, he acted like a
seasoned vet. Keep up the good work Erich.
Most important, I would like to thank our Divan for “looking pretty darn sharp” on their float.
You set the tone for the parade of “Having Fun” and it showed! Illustrious Sir Jared, was that a tear
in your eye, or just sweat, when you looked back at all the Units before we started?
A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR FIRST LADY KIM
AND ALL OUR LADIES “IN PINK” THAT LINED
THE PARADE ROUTE AND CHEERED FOR US. IT
WAS TERRIFIC TO SEE AND HEAR ALL OF YOU!
ALL IN ALL, IT TRULY WAS A GREAT DAY TO BE A
SHRINER, ESPECIALLY A RAJAH SHRINER!
And last, as you read above, our Arab Patrol brought home
a trophy. Yes, you read that correctly. After being missing for
many years, they were part of this year’s parade. This idea came
in part from listening to Ill. Sir Jared talk about the importance
of supporting the Units and Club within the Shrine.
In keeping with that premise and the “Genie” theme of the
Illustrious’ year, I had the idea that there was no better way to
lead this year’s parade than with the Arab Patrol, Rajah Shrine’s
oldest Unit. With the help of Ill. Sir Ron Rapp and the permission
of the Arab Patrol President Frank Einsel, I was able to put the
Unit to good use. A special thank you to Glenn Wolfe and Joel
Franco for helping me, make that happen, even if Joel’s sash
was a little too big! On a personal note, I rocked those red pants!
If you are looking to join a Unit that is rooted deep in Shrine
customs and pageantry, like to march in Parades and stand
Ceremonial Guard, then the Arab Patrol is the Unit for you!
In closing I leave you with this thought, “What does it
mean to be your Parade Marshal?” It means you have to be an
organizer, an adapter, a director, a parking place finder, a take
charge and accept “no excuses” person, a float builder, a buffer,
and lastly, it’s the guy who had a big smile on his face as he
began the Parade! It’s a special job, one that Erich, Dave and I
take very seriously and like those who served before us, are very
proud and honored to represent all of you!
Life Changes
Yo
our priorities change,
Your needs change,
Your idea of a perfect home changes.
You don’t have to go it alone… I can help!
