Although it’s nested between suburbs, the sweeping land here is more natural, well-kept and beautiful. The inside of their adminstration building matches the calming beauty of the outside, with their lobby overflowing with numerous awards and well deserved accolades. The true beauty here is what the Buckeye Ranch does for the community. I met with Kenny Jackson, Development Assistant and Tim Woodard, the Managing Director of Development. Both men are pleasant and soft-spoken and greeted us warmly. Woodard began the interview by explaining what exactly the Buckeye Ranch does. “The Buckeye Ranch serves children and families that are dealing with behavioral health, mental health, and emotional health issues. Our mission is to restore hope and healing to children and families,” Woodard said with a smile. “We’re providing assistance to 2,350 kids across the state, every day.” That much assistance doesn’t come overnight. Woodard said Buckeye Ranch has achieved these high numbers through years of assistance from the Grove City Community. “Of course, we’ve always been very, very grateful to the Grove City community,” he said. “Because we started here in 1961, this is our 57th year in business and Grove City has always been very, very supportive of us. We started here in Grove City with one cottage for about 10 boys. We have expanded our services over the years as the needs have grown. Now we are in seven different service locations across the state. In Grove City, we do residential treatment. We also have foster care. We do case management for Franklin County Children’s Services. Really - a very wide continuum of care.” Like others, I had no idea the Buckeye Ranch had been around for such a long time — or that they were able to help more than 2,000 children every day. I asked Jackson if they had any special programs coming up and he was happy to elaborate. “Every year, the Buckeye Ranch holds our holiday program, ‘Adopt a Family Program,’” said Jackson. “Through the program we connect families in service - children receiving services from the Buckeye Ranch to donors in the community and 2016 was one of our largest years ever. We provided service to 1,542 people through the Adopt a Family Program! That was 160 families which resulted in almost a 50 percent increase compared to 2015. We had almost over $70,000 in gifts donated, the gifts were flowing out of rooms. There was just joy everywhere!” Jackson explained that you don’t have to give large donations to help. The suggested donation is actually only $50 — and for that you can sponsor an entire family! “We are actively looking for donors interested in the Adopt a Family Program. As a donor, you fill out your contact information, as well as your giving ability. We suggest a $50 donation per family member just so that everything they are in need of whether it be clothing, books, puzzles, games, etcetera, is covered,” said Jackson. “We use that number to connect you with a family that will match your giving level so that you each donor feels that they’re making an impact, but also not outside of their budget.” The Adopt a Family program helped 1,542 people last year. The Buckeye Ranch helps families.
