‘Westfield Remembers’ WWI exhibition
On the weekend 3 rd and 4 th November the Exhibition was on display in the
Church Hall. We would like to thank the Working Party who worked very hard in
putting together this wonderful commemoration of those who served; in
particular, thanks go to Ruth and Ben Carter of Westfield History who worked
tirelessly to make the exhibition happen. Thanks to Pauline Filsell-Page for
organising the refreshments and drumming up volunteers. On the Saturday
evening there was a good turnout for a film showing of the acclaimed 1916 film
of the Battle of the Somme, on loan from the Imperial War Museum. Greene
King donated a keg of their commemorative beer to the event. About £225 from
the evening was added to all donations received throughout the weekend which
will be given to the local branch of the Royal British Legion. The display was
moved to the Church throughout the week from Monday 5 th November until
Armistice Day.
Thanks should also be expressed to Pauline for stepping in at the last minute to
organise the Poppy Appeal for Westfield, find collectors and order the wreaths.
