team of volunteers at<br />
Enliven<br />
<strong>The</strong> secret ingredient that makes<br />
Enliven day programmes for seniors a fun<br />
day out is our amazing volunteers. And<br />
right now we are actively recruiting more<br />
volunteers to join our teams in Linwood<br />
and Riccarton.<br />
“Our volunteers are vital to the work<br />
we do,” says Penny Taylor, Presbyterian<br />
Support Regional Manager. “<strong>The</strong>y help<br />
create an environment that is warm and<br />
homely; somewhere that our members<br />
look forward to coming to each week.”<br />
Small teams of volunteers assist day<br />
programme staff by serving meals and<br />
refreshments and setting up activities.<br />
<strong>The</strong>y also support members as they<br />
participate, and provide invaluable social<br />
interaction through simply listening,<br />
chatting, and sharing good times. <strong>The</strong><br />
time commitment isn’t huge—just three<br />
hours per week or fortnight—but the<br />
volunteers’ positive impact is enormous.<br />
Volunteers make comments like “You<br />
hear the joy and laughter of people who<br />
might be living on their own and wouldn’t<br />
experience that joy if it weren’t for your<br />
help. <strong>The</strong>re’s this immense satisfaction<br />
from knowing you’ve made somebody’s<br />
day better.”<br />
No experience is necessary, just a<br />
genuine interest in working with older<br />
