PROGRAMME (ALP)

DEAR DIARY,
I am about to embark on a new journey to learn
basic coding and computer science concepts
with my classmates. I am feeling so excited to
see what lies ahead!
In our ALP journey, my classmates and I discover
the endless possibilities of micro:bit — a tiny
handheld programmable computer. Every ALP
lesson is filled with “a-ha!” moments!
We work in pairs and take ownership of our
learning. One major highlight: we embark on
a group project! We choose a target group of
people, seek their opinions on what their needs
are and brainstorm for solutions to best suit
their needs.
Next step: It’s time to create a prototype for the
chosen idea!
What’s the outcome, you ask? A shoe made with
cardboard, a plant watering system created with
disposable cups and a cardboard wardrobe with
paper “clothes” on hangers are just some of the
brilliant inventions!
The much-awaited day arrives. We eagerly set
up our booths to display the fruit of our labour
to our Principal, teachers and classmates.
Confidence courses through our veins as we
present our projects to the visitors who visit our
booths!
In ALP lessons, we surely gain new knowledge
beyond textbooks and the walls of a classroom.
This is what the joy of learning feels like.
