Debate Festival<br />

The English<br />
Language<br />
Department<br />
organised<br />
the Debate Fest<br />
with the aim of<br />
developing students’<br />
communicative and<br />
critical thinking skills.<br />
All the Secondary<br />
3 Express classes<br />
conducted their intraclass<br />
debate sessions<br />
as part of their English<br />
Language curriculum<br />
in Term 2.<br />
The winning team from<br />
each class then had<br />
preliminary rounds to<br />
determine the two best<br />
teams for the finals.<br />
They debated over the<br />
following two motions:<br />
1) Sports should be an<br />
examinable subject.<br />
2) Single-sex schools<br />
should be abolished.<br />
On 18 July <strong>2018</strong>, Sec<br />
3E1 (proposition) and<br />
Sec 3E2 (opposition)<br />
met in the grand finals<br />
with the motion "Our<br />
success is dependent<br />
on our appearance<br />
in today's world".<br />
Secondary 3E2<br />
emerged the winner.<br />
It was an exciting and<br />
fruitful Debate Fest for<br />
all involved.<br />
