SouthPark Mall, 1971. Suburbanization led to a massive growth in the physical size of the City of <strong>Charlotte</strong>. Dependence in automobiles led to large shopping centers at the city’s edge.<br />
Businesses left the Center City to move closer to their customers–a trend which is continuing as Interstate 485 is built.<br />
