HOLDING ON TO SUMMER
How would you describe your ultimate summer ‘luxe landscape’ experience?
Craig Wilson pauses to contemplate what this could look like.
Work has finished for the day, so ditch the shirt and tie
for the comfy shorts and new favourite T-shirt you
found under the Christmas tree. Step through the stackers
from the living room onto the deck and enjoy the warmth of
the afternoon sun. The feel of the deck underfoot takes you
straight back to the bach. The soft-coloured cushions and
squabs on the built-in seats beg you to linger. You choose to
crash out on the daybed. With the louvred roof remote, the
perfect amount of shade is achieved in mere moments.
Background music emanates from the outdoor sound
system while the last few overs of the cricket play out on the
wall-mounted outdoor screen. Thoughts of the office beat
a hasty retreat… You get up to retrieve a cold one from
the fridge underneath the polished concrete benchtop on
the barbecue island and remind yourself it’ll soon be time to
crank up the gas to preheat the hotplate.
Splashes of water flick across the background view as the
kids take turns jumping into the pool. You look out across the
manicured lawn to the sheltered pool enclosure, bathed in
afternoon sun and nicely sheltered from the easterly breeze.
Perhaps you’ll take a quick dip yourself.
Later in the evening, after a relaxed al fresco dinner on the
paved patio under the cantilevered umbrella, you lean back
and enjoy the lush green foliage of the layered plantings in the
raised beds.
As the night sky fades you flick on the outdoor lights and a
soft ambient hue gently reflects off the paving from a cleverly
recessed LED strip. You smile contentedly, appreciating the
fine work the gardener did today, and think about inviting the
neighbours over this weekend…
