USUALLY, to deem something in fashion a ‘trend’, three
or four designers need to hop on the bandwagon. But
every so often, it feels like everyone is on the same page
about a certain thing - and anyone following the spring
2019 runways could easily spot what that thing is for this
season.
Saturated hues of this sunniest of shades were seen
all over the catwalks; from power suiting at Boss and
Escada, to floaty numbers at Self-Portrait and Oscar de
la Renta, you couldn’t escape the feel-good appeal of
yellow.
Amal Clooney was ahead of the game with her stunning
vivid marigold Stella McCartney dress at Prince Harry
and Meghan Markle’s wedding last May. In fact, ever
since La La Land and Emma Stone’s un for get table canary
dress, yel low’s fash ion stock has been on the rise. So
much so that the colour gurus at Pantone have decreed a
marigold shade called Aspen Gold as the yellow for the
season.
While yellow might not appear to be the easiest colour
to wear, it can be a seriously stylish and flattering choice.
Team cosy knits with denim staples for off-duty chic, or
add a bright blazer over a simple cami top and skinnies
for an update on your date-night classic.
And while the zingy hue might be perfect for injecting
a splash of colour into your casual attire, don’t overlook
the power of yellow when it comes to workwear. Suiting,
in particular, has seen a tutti fruity makeover for SS19,
with sharply tailored trousers and form-fitting pencil
skirts in bright canary shades teaming perfectly with
crisp white shirts to add an instant energising effect to
your nine-to-five wardrobe.
If you’re more wallflower than sunflower, top-to-toe
marigold might feel like a step too far. But add a few
joyous accessories into your repertoire - some killer heels
there, a structured statement bag there - to give your
outfit an immediate lift.
