Romance 101: Self-Love

The famous poet, Oscar Wilde, said
it best: “To love oneself is the beginning
of a lifelong romance.” I’m sure you’ve
heard it – love yourself! You’re thinking,
“Okay, but how? And why?” You have
others to care for. Do they fall to the
wayside in the wake of your self-love
journey? What are the benefits? That is
the beauty of self-love, and its sidekick,
self-care. The love you cultivate for
yourself is not only so important for
your overall well being, but it is great
at improving your relationships with
others. Let’s explore, shall we?
The difference between self-care
and selfish.
Self-care is often confused with
selfishness. Here’s the difference: Selfcare
is honoring your needs for your
overall well-being. Selfishness is lacking
consideration for others and doing
something purely for your personal gain.
You care for yourself so you can better
care for others. Whose oxygen mask
goes on first? Yours. Is putting your oxygen
mask on first selfish? It’s dramatic,
I know, but you get the picture. When
you are taken care of, it becomes much
easier for you to handle everything life
throws at you. That being said, it isn’t
all bubble baths and wine. Sometimes
it’s hard work to put your foot down
and say no to what does not serve you.
A loving relationship starts with
you.
Who or what validates you? I bet
you are the last person on that list. Having
a strong relationship with yourself is
the key to self-love. It comes from within,
not an outside source. Why? People
come and go. We can lose friends,
lovers, or family in a heartbeat. Relying
on others for happiness is straining to
your self-worth. Begin to give yourself
affirmations. By creating a strong relationship
and trust with YOU, you allow
others to respect and love you as you
love yourself. You won’t settle. You will
be more open to accepting love.
Having self-love increases your
ability to love others, and when you love
yourself, you will care for yourself in
the ways that you deserve because you
worked for it.

Temecula Valley Hospital and Southwest Healthcare System to Host Women’s Health
Expo to Educate the Local Community on Women’s Health Awareness
Temecula Valley Hospital and Southwest
Healthcare System, which includes
Rancho Springs Medical Center and Inland
Valley Medical Center, is hosting an educational
community event, a Women’s Health
Expo, on February 28, 2019, from 10:00 am
to 1:30 pm at Pechanga Resort and Casino.
The event will feature education regarding
heart, stroke and gynecological
health for women. The event will have
a gourmet lunch provided. Registration
is required and can be completed at

This expo will provide education
and resources to assist women in making
lifestyle changes that can improve their
health. Free screenings will be available for
women to learn their numbers in terms of
measurements that put them at risk. These
screenings are available to ensure that every
woman who attends knows her numbers.
Blood pressure, Lipid Panel (Cholesterol,
Triglycerides, etc.) and Glucose (Diabetes)
screenings will be offered to attendees.
There will be informational booths
providing education on nutrition and
healthy eating education, exercise, smoking
cessation, stroke, heart disease, and
stress management. American Medical
Response (AMR) will provide hands-only
CPR training. Local businesses will be
attending and offering healthy lifestyle
options to attendees.
The lunch portion of the event will
include physician speakers and patient
testimonials who will discuss risk factors,
lifestyle changes, how heart disease and
stroke symptoms present differently in
women and when these symptoms require
medical attention. A physician will also
speak regarding gynecological and oncology
health. The speaker panel will conclude
with an audience Q & A session.
All women are encouraged to attend
this informative event to receive education
on their health, including heart disease,
stroke, gynecological health, as well as empower
themselves to make lifestyle changes
that may help save their life. The cost to
attend the event is $10 and every registration
will be entered into a drawing to win a
package for two at the new Pechanga Spa.
