Working with Austria
The Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global
Citizens is strategically positioned in
Vienna, Austria, which hosts one of the
headquarters of the United Nations
and is home to many international
organizations. Austria is rich in
multilaterally relevant organizations,
can count on strong representation of
Permanent Missions, and is a perfect
location for IOs as well as
quasi-international organizations.
The Ban Ki-moon Centre has and will
continue to foster its meaningful
partnerships with the Austrian
Government. The Centre share goals
with the Austrian Government of
fostering peace, encouraging dialogue
and the exchange of ideas, improving
education and promoting sustainable
development.
In August 2018, the Ban Ki-moon
Centre held its second official Board
Meeting at the margins of the Political
Symposium of European Forum
Alpbach 2018 in Tirol, Austria, and
co-hosted “Development Dialogue on
SDGs and empowerment” with the
Austrian Development Agency (ADA)
featuring H.E. Austria´s Foreign
Minister Karin Kneissl and ADA
Director Martin Ledolter.
Furthermore, Co-chair Ban Ki-moon
participated in the “Growth in
Transition” conference hosted by the
Ministry for Sustainability and
Tourism with H.E. Austrian Minister
Elisabeth Köstinger and attended the
kick-off meeting for the “Sounding
Board” of Think Austria, the new
strategic expert group convened by
H.E. Austrian Chancellor Sebastian
Kurz. Furthermore, the Centre
collaborated with the Austrian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs in hosting a
Political Forum on the multilateral
treaty regime with H.E. Foreign
Minister Karin Kneissl in November
2018. Multi-stakeholders from Austria
are closely connected to the work of the
Centre.
