Ban Ki-moon Centre Annual Report 2018

Dear friends of the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens,
It is a pleasure to present to you the annual report of the inaugural year of the Ban Ki-moon
simultaneously able to witness the continuing rise of nationalism and backlash against the
Sustainable Development Goals, the Fundamental Human Rights Charter, and the idea of a
world that advances through empathy, cooperation and the concept of global citizenship. We
have witnessed leaders acting as national leaders putting their own national interests on the
top of the agenda, while ignoring the fact that we can only advance when others advance
together with us.
In 2018 the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens worked ambitiously to foster the
empowerment of women and youth to become the global leaders not only of tomorrow, but
of today. With determination and eagerness, we invested our energy to build a Centre that
stands for the promotion of global citizenship. Our projects, initiatives and events radiated
initial expectations. We are now a well-known entity that is built on a legacy that stands for
the pursuance of women’s rights, education for all, and the strengthening of human rights on
a global level.
In the past year we have established an organization that is backed by an outstanding Board
committed to our mission.

the obstacles that we will encounter. We will continue to do our part to foster the global
