Award-winning traditional sword dancers<br />
who won the national Dancing Engl<strong>and</strong> Rapper<br />
Tournament in 2013 <strong>and</strong> 2014, <strong>and</strong> the weekend<br />
before the festival will be competing in the <strong>2019</strong><br />
tournament in <strong>Newcastle</strong>.<br />
The rapper dance is a fast traditional English<br />
dance whose origins lie in the mining villages<br />
of Durham <strong>and</strong> Northumberl<strong>and</strong>. It involves five<br />
people connected by short, two-h<strong>and</strong>led, flexible swords (called rappers)<br />
forming a chain. Without breaking this chain the dancers weave in <strong>and</strong> out of<br />
one another, twisting the swords to form locks <strong>and</strong> breastplates, sometimes<br />
jumping or even somersaulting over the swords.<br />

quartet is based in <strong>Newcastle</strong>.<br />
The quartet sing traditional<br />
<strong>and</strong> contemporary close vocal<br />
harmonies to delight <strong>and</strong> amaze.<br />
They perform a bi-weekly<br />
YouTube post using #tagtuesday,<br />
but you can catch them live here at<br />
the festival on Thursday night.<br />

be National Barbershop Quartet<br />

We’re delighted to have<br />
former Lindisfarne member<br />
Marty Craggs alongside<br />
Steve Dolder, Dave Whiffin,<br />
<strong>and</strong> Michael Bailey. Together<br />
they are the Little B<strong>and</strong> Jam.<br />
They’ve only been playing a<br />
few months, but already have<br />
a sizeable following playing<br />
songs from Lindesfarne, The<br />
Happy Cats <strong>and</strong> all ports inbetween.<br />
