Dear guests,
This month, many people around
the world celebrate Easter, which is a
popular time of the year to travel.
Kenya Airways’ destination, the Vanilla
Islands (an affiliation of island nations:
Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar,
Mayotte and Réunion), is ideal for celebrating
Easter, which marks the end of
the rainy season in the region. Daytime
temperatures in April are around 30°C
and there’s an abundance of sunshine.
You can also enjoy many festivities,
feasts and religious ceremonies. However,
there are plenty of other Easter
getaways to enjoy as you will read in
this issue.
Whether you are planning a business trip
to Guangzhou, China, or considering
an off-the-beaten-track trip to Kenya’s
lesser-known regions, you’ll find plenty
of travel inspiration in these pages. In
our trend story this month, we look
into exciting new recycling initiatives in
Africa that are helping to combat solid
waste by turning it into useful products
and energy. These initiatives have been
so successful that waste is now becoming
a sought after raw material in Africa.
The phrase, “one person’s rubbish is
another person’s gold”, is shown to be
true here.
Our heritage story covers another
successful urban initiative: Nairobi’s
matatu, which began as an illegal – and
often ramshackle – minibus service that
was more efficient and cheaper than
official buses. These days, the matatu
is recognised as a bona fide form of
transport, and, with its flamboyant
paint job and loud music, it’s popular
with the locals while being an enjoyable
cultural experience for visitors.
Visitors to Nairobi today are likely
to hear a new genre of music called
Afrobeats blasting out of these matatus.
Our business story looks into the rise of
Afrobeats, which is a music phenomenon
that’s shaping youth culture around the
world. This music genre started in the
UK, but has its roots in several types of
African music that were popular with
previous generations.
Thank you most sincerely for flying with
