A collection of books and more<br />
<strong>Selwyn</strong>’s local libraries and mobile<br />
library ensure there is never a dull<br />
moment and with reading a favourite<br />
pastime, the work of both employed<br />
library staff and volunteers is greatly<br />
appreciated by many people.<br />
The district’s libraries are more than<br />
just about reading with regular events<br />
held as part of the <strong>Selwyn</strong> District<br />
Library service, in all four of its local<br />
centres at Darfield, Leeston, Lincoln<br />
and Rolleston. Crafts, games, clubs,<br />
special events and book reading are<br />
some of the activities held for the<br />
community.<br />
In addition, two small libraries can<br />
be discovered in Glentunnel and Tai<br />
Tapu. These are worth a visit for their<br />
historic value, if not their interesting<br />
collection of books. Both libraries are<br />
run on a volunteer basis with limited<br />
hours of opening.<br />
Supporting local libraries and the<br />
wider community, is a mobile library<br />
service which travels throughout the<br />
district visiting certain preschools,<br />
schools and community centres on a<br />
fortnightly or monthly basis. The bus<br />
travels as far west as Arthur’s Pass<br />
and south to North Rakaia Huts. A<br />

Also available through the <strong>Selwyn</strong><br />
District Library service are<br />
eResources. Customers can access<br />
eBooks, databases, videos and online<br />
information simply by having an<br />
internet connection and log in.<br />
Lincoln University also has an<br />
academic library with membership<br />
available to the community (Go to:<br />

Our easy to remember hours for our libraries at<br />
Darfield, Leeston, Lincoln and Rolleston are:<br />
· Monday to Friday 9am–6pm (Lincoln and Rolleston<br />
open to 8pm on Thursdays).<br />
· Saturday 10am–4pm<br />
· Sunday 10am–4pm: Lincoln and Rolleston.<br />
Closed at Darfield and Leeston.<br />
