the #NationalDayOfPrayer which is later this
I’m sure many of
you have been following
the terribly
unfortunate story of the
5-year-old Crystal Lake
boy, A.J. Freund, who
police say was killed.
Anytime a child — or
anyone for that matter
— goes missing, I see
that community provide
unbelievable support to
search for them and raise
awareness to make sure
they are found safely.
What makes this story
so difficult to read about
in the news, is almost
every other day learning
something new about
what that poor boy had
endured throughout his
nfyn
From Page 18
was a 24-year-old Bolingbrook
woman, police said.
She reportedly was transported
to an area hospital
in serious condition.
Matariyeh left the crash
site but was later apprehended
at his home, police
said. He was transported to
an area hospital for injuries
from the crash.
childhood. His death,
like so many others,
can’t help but bring
you to tears and want to
know why? Why him?
Why didn’t anyone stop
it? The only thing a community
can do during
those difficult times, is
to bring about something
positive in the midst of a
tragedy.
That’s exactly what
Tinley Park resident Tara
Arthur-Jurgovan and
owner of T-N-T Extreme
Dance in Tinley is trying
to do. She has teamed up
with 90 other businesses
across the Chicago-area
to host a donation drive
of items to be given to
children in foster care in
honor of A.J. Freund.
A foster mother from
Crystal Lake created
an organization called
Stuff the Duffel, which
is what the items are being
gathered for. Tinley
residents can go to T-
N-T and drop off items
through May 21. After,
Arthur-Jurgovan will
bring the donations to
Crystal Lake, where the
organization will look
through the supplies and
put backpacks or duffel
bags together of items to
be donated. You can read
more about this story on
Page 4.
I’m so glad to see such
an out pour of support in
honor of this little boy
who had clearly touched
so many people, not
just in Crystal Lake, but
around the area. In order
to heal, sometimes all we
can do is take a terrible
situation and bring about
something positive.
I would encourage
those in Tinley who
have either been inspired
by his story to make
a change, or just want
to help, to visit www.
stufftheduffel.org to see
a list of items that the
organization is looking
for to be collected. The
items requested should
be brand new.
It is extremely heartwarming
to see so many
people coming together,
particularly those from
Tinley Park. When
everyone works together,
it’s amazing to see all the
great things that can be
accomplished.
