Liquor store operators from Tinley<br />
Park charged with sales tax evasion<br />

announced April 28 that<br />
two liquor store operators<br />
from Tinley Park were<br />
among five Chicago area<br />
owners to be charged with<br />
sales tax evasion and interstate<br />
bootlegging.<br />
According to the statement<br />
from Raoul’s office,<br />
45-year-old Tinley Park<br />
resident Ashwinkumar<br />
Patel, of AM Wine and<br />
Spirit in Calumet Park,<br />
and 50-year-old Tinley<br />
Park resident Sanjaykumar<br />
K. Soni, of KVS Calumet<br />
City Liquor Businesses,<br />
Inc. in Calumet City, were<br />
charged.<br />
Patel was charged with<br />
one count of theft of government<br />
property, one<br />
count of sales tax evasion<br />
(Class 1), nine counts<br />
of filing a fraudulent tax<br />
return and one count of<br />
wire fraud. Soni was<br />
charged with one count of<br />
theft of government property,<br />
one count of sales<br />
tax evasion (Class 1),<br />
two counts of sales tax<br />
evasion (Class 2) and 27<br />
counts of filing fraudulent<br />
tax returns.<br />

Illinois Department of<br />
Revenue to investigate<br />
and prosecute untaxed or<br />
bootlegged liquor brought<br />
in from outside of Illinois,<br />
according to the statement.<br />
The Secret Service assisted<br />
the Illinois Department<br />
of Revenue with the investigation.<br />
A similar investigation<br />
led to charges against<br />
nine liquor store owners in<br />
2015, the first of its kind<br />
since the 2013 law that<br />
created the crime of sales<br />
tax evasion, and imposed<br />
stronger penalties based<br />
on the amount of sales tax<br />
evaded, the statement concluded.<br />

Police Reports<br />
Three women charged for retail<br />
theft in separate incidents at Target<br />
Cailyn D. Hicks-Lewis,<br />
22, of Chicago, was<br />
charged with one felony<br />
count of retail theft April<br />
27, after police responded<br />
to Target, located at<br />
7300 191st St. in Tinley<br />
Park, in reference to a reported<br />
retail theft where<br />
Hicks-Lewis allegedly<br />
stole merchandise valued<br />
at $1,000.91, according<br />
to the Tinley Park Police<br />
Department. According to<br />
the report, two loss prevention<br />
agents observed<br />
four individuals, including<br />
Hicks-Lewis, exit the store<br />
with a shopping cart containing<br />
items that had not<br />
been purchased. The loss<br />
prevention agents stopped<br />
Hicks-Lewis pushing the<br />
cart and escorted her to<br />
the loss prevention office.<br />
Police viewed surveillance<br />
video taken inside the store<br />
that reportedly showed the<br />
four individuals placing<br />
unpaid merchandise inside<br />
of Target shopping bags at<br />
the self check out register,<br />
where they then placed<br />
the bags into a shopping<br />
cart. Hicks-Lewis was allegedly<br />
seen paying for<br />
several additional items<br />
and placing them on top of<br />
unpaid items. According to<br />
the report, the Will County<br />
Assistant State’s Attorney<br />
Office did not approve<br />
charges against the three<br />
other individuals.<br />
Heather R. Lee, 31, of<br />
the 1110 block of Daniel<br />
Trail in Mokena, was<br />
charged with retail theft<br />
April 25, after police responded<br />
to Target, located<br />
at 7300 191st St. in Tinley<br />
Park, in reference to<br />
a retail theft incident in<br />
which Lee allegedly stole<br />
$356.63 worth of merchandise,<br />
according to the<br />
Tinley Park Police Department.<br />
According to the<br />
police report, a loss prevention<br />
agent noticed Lee<br />
trying on clothes in the<br />
clearance section and observed<br />
her remove several<br />
items of clothing from the<br />
hangers on the racks. The<br />
loss prevention agent told<br />
police that she folded the<br />
items of clothing she removed<br />
from the racks and<br />
placed them in piles on the<br />
floor. The police report<br />
stated that Lee walked to<br />
the men’s section, where<br />
she placed one shirt into<br />
a black backpack she had.<br />
She then continued to put<br />
on several layers of clothing<br />
she removed from the<br />
racks. Lee then returned to<br />
the clearance section and<br />
placed several more items<br />
of clothing into a multicolored<br />
backpack and had<br />
a shopping basket with<br />
clothing items. According<br />
to the report, she walked<br />
past the last point of purchase<br />
with the shopping<br />
basket and two backpacks<br />
containing the items of<br />
clothing without paying<br />
the full retail value.<br />
Tammy Lynn Dunne, 56,<br />
of the 700 block of Harrison<br />
Avenue in Hammond,<br />
Indiana, was charged with<br />
one count felony retail<br />
theft April 24, after police<br />
were dispatched to Target,<br />
located at 7300 191st St.<br />
in Tinley Park, in reference<br />
to a retail theft with<br />
an offender in custody,<br />
according to the Tinley<br />
Park Police Department.<br />
According to the police<br />
report, two loss prevention<br />
agents observed Dunne<br />
walking around the store<br />
putting various high-priced<br />
items in her cart. She was<br />
allegedly with two other<br />
unknown females who also<br />
placed items in Dunne’s<br />
cart, as well as a separate<br />
cart that had items totalling<br />
$897.60. According<br />
to the report, Dunne had<br />
a total of $1,086.48 worth<br />
of products in her cart as<br />
she passed the last point<br />
of purchase. She was then<br />
stopped by loss prevention<br />
agents. The two other unknown<br />
females left the cart<br />
they were pushing and left<br />
the building through a different<br />
exit once Dunne was<br />
stopped. The two females<br />
were unable to be located.<br />
April 28<br />
•Person(s) unknown stole<br />
$3,200 worth of items<br />
from a vehicle parked outside<br />
of a residence on Lake<br />
Bluff Drive in Tinley Park,<br />
according to the Tinley<br />
Park Police Department.<br />
The man told police that<br />
his wife was walking their<br />
dog in the parking lot and<br />
noticed the rear passenger<br />
side door and rear passenger<br />
side tool chest open.<br />
According to the report,<br />
the man told police that<br />
his tool chest doors were<br />
unlocked but the vehicle<br />
was locked. A Bosch hammer<br />
drill ($700), a Bauer<br />
hamemr drill ($300), laser<br />
($2,000) and a Dewalt<br />
electric grease gun ($200)<br />
were taken from the vehicle.<br />
The man told police<br />
that the vehicle and tools<br />
belong to his company<br />
Fogarty Enterprises.<br />
