T-Bolts head
back to state
tournament in
badminton

Andrew is back in the
Illinois High School Association
state badminton
tournament.
Last year, the T-Bolts
were stunned not to have
a player or team qualify.
Since the IHSA began
tracking the tournament
on its website in 1997,
Andrew had at least one
representative each year
until the streak was halted
in 2018.
Singles player Nicole
Bath and the doubles team
of Elizabeth McDougall-
Anna Gawron made sure
that was not going to happen
again.
They qualified for the
43rd running of the state
tournament, which takes
place on Friday, May 10
and Saturday, May 11, at
Eastern Illinois University
in Charleston.
This tournament and the
boys gymnastics state meet
open a series of 13 spring
state championships which
will run through June 8.
McDougall-Gawron is
the first doubles team from
Andrew’s Elizabeth
McDougall teamed with
Anna Gawron to become
the first T-Bolt doubles
team since 2016 to qualify
for the state tournament.

at the Thornton Fractional
South Sectional on Thursday,
May 2 in Lansing.
After taking care of
business the first two
matches with a pair of
two-set wins, the team
dropped a championship
match to T.F. South’s Ashley
James-Paige Drewno,
21-9, 21-10.
Bath had some work to
do after dropping a second-round
battle with Oak
Forest’s Madeline Lewner
to send her to the consolation
bracket.
After winning a pair of
consolation matches, Bath
faced Lewner for a state
tournament bid and this
time came up with a 21-
16, 27-25 victory. She then
lost a 21-11, 12-21, 21-7
war with Oswego’s Britney
Sennes to take fourth
place.
Andrew took third place
in the meet with 9.5 points
behind Oswego (14 points)
and the hosts (13.5).

230 schools Andrew,
Sandburg and Stagg, finished
seventh out of eight
teams in the Lyons Sectional
on April 30 and did
not have a state qualifier.
Senior Sawyer Mackovitch
claimed 10th in the
all-around with 45.3500
while sophomore T-Bolt
Ethan Ryan placed 16th
with a 40.5500 and junior
Charles Chavez took 19th
with a 29.400.
