Claude Crook chose OTR career despite losing
6 family members to drugged truck driver
An over-the-road truck driver for 27 years,
Claude Crook decided to investigate professional
truck driving for a very unusual reason.
Unbelievable, even.
He says back in the ’70s he lost six family
members in a crash caused by a truck driver.
“I wanted to know what the truck driver could
have done differently if anything,” he says.
He had to know what made this driver crest
the top of a hill and come upon vehicles stopped
for a construction zone and just plow over the
top of stopped cars, including the Pontiac his
six family members were riding in.
The trucker apparently was speeding, and
Crook believes he was “drugged up” at the time,
possibly sleepy and downing caffeine-laden energy
drinks to keep himself awake. What was
going through his mind? Why did he seem to
not even see the stopped cars in front of him?
Could he have avoided the horrendous
crash?
