Claude Crook chose OTR career despite losing<br />

6 family members to drugged truck driver<br />

An over-the-road truck driver for 27 years,<br />

Claude Crook decided to investigate professional<br />

truck driving for a very unusual reason.<br />

Unbelievable, even.<br />

He says back in the ’70s he lost six family<br />

members in a crash caused by a truck driver.<br />

“I wanted to know what the truck driver could<br />

have done differently if anything,” he says.<br />

He had to know what made this driver crest<br />

the top of a hill and come upon vehicles stopped<br />

for a construction zone and just plow over the<br />

top of stopped cars, including the Pontiac his<br />

six family members were riding in.<br />

The trucker apparently was speeding, and<br />

Crook believes he was “drugged up” at the time,<br />

possibly sleepy and downing caffeine-laden energy<br />

drinks to keep himself awake. What was<br />

going through his mind? Why did he seem to<br />

not even see the stopped cars in front of him?<br />

Could he have avoided the horrendous<br />

crash?<br />

Crook, who lives in the trucking town of Lou-<br />
