Archaeological Society
The Darby Creek chapter of the Archaeological
Society of Ohio will meet June 18 at
the Oak Run Township Hall building, 7090
Gregg Mill Road, located at the corner of
State Route 56 and Gregg Mill, five miles
east of London. Socializing and snacks start
at 5:30 p.m. followed by the program at
p.m. Professor Lance Greene of the Wright
State University will talk about his archaeological
finds and the 1780 Battle of Peckuwe.
A chapter meeting will follow the
presentation. All are welcome to attend and
bring in Native American and early pioneer
artifacts for discussion.

• Library Board. The board will meet at
6 p.m. June 18. Applications are available
for a position on the board. The deadline is

• Family STEAM Night: Rainforest Ramble.
At 6 p.m. June 19, Prairie Oaks will
bring amphibians and reptiles to the library.
Each registered child will receive a
bracelet made with a rainforest seed.
• Summer Reading Cruise. The next stop
is Easter Island at 10:30 a.m. June 21. A
free pizza lunch for children follows at noon.

• Book Boot Camp. At 11 a.m. on Tuesdays,
the library hosts physically active book
readings and songs for children ages 3-10.
• Black Holes. At 2 p.m. June 17, the
Armstrong Air & Space Museum will present
a hands-on program using balloons and
aluminum foil to teach how black holes are
formed and their basic physical concepts.
• Kindergarten Camp. From 5:30 to 7:30
p.m. June 17, children entering kindergarten
can practice sitting and listening,
lining up, taking turns and packing a book
bag, and more. Snack provided.
• Cookbook Club. Club members make
recipes from a select cookbook or cookbook
author and share them. The next session is
at 7 p.m. June 19.
• Space Crafts. All ages are welcome to
make alien spaceships, planet suncatchers
and straw rockets from 2 to 3 p.m. June 24.
• Friends of the Library. 6 p.m. June 24.

• Portable Planetarium. The Boonshoft
Museum will set up a portable planetarium
at the Mount Sterling Community Center,
164 E. Main St. Learn about planets, the
moon, stars, constellations and more. Show times are 1 p.m., 1:45
p.m. and 2:30 p.m. June 17. Recommended for ages third grade and
older. Space is limited for this library-sponsored event. The library
is giving out tickets.
• Unexpected Flying Objects. Tony Steinbach brings his comedic
juggling and magic act to the Mount Sterling Community Center,
164 E. Main St., at 1 p.m. June 21. Sponsored by the library.
• Patriotic Summertime Sip & Paint. The Friends of the Library
are hosting this artistic event from 1 to 4 p.m. June 30 at American
Legion Post 417, 27 N. Clark St., Mount Sterling. The cost is $35
and includes supplies and lessons by Mary Davis. Payment is due
at the time of registration at the library.
• Ladies Night Out. Watch a recently released movie at 6:30 p.m.
June 24. Bring a potluck dish to share.
Parade
The London Community Organization and the city of London will
host a Fourth of July parade on July 4. Lineup is at 10 a.m. The parade
steps off at 11. Anyone who would like to participate in the parade
is asked to fill out and turn in a registration form by June 28.

Patriotic Service
United Church, 30 E. Main St., Mount Sterling, will hold a patriotic
service at 7 p.m. June 28. Pastor Dan Shipley will lead the
service. The public is welcome.

• Virtual Reality: Space. On June 18, choose from a variety of
space-themed virtual reality experiences, including a trip aboard
Apollo 11, Mars Odyssey, Star Wars Droid Repair Bay, and a tour
of the International Space Station. Registration is required. Times
are by appointment.
• Astronomy Academy: A COSI Workshop. At 2 p.m. June 19,
set course for the stars with this astronomical engineering experience
for kids who have complete grades three and up. Participants
will explore the solar system, construct a classroom-sized model of
the planets, and take on the role of aerospace engineer to tackle the
design process to design, build, test and redesign extreme paper
rockets and space bases. Registration is required.
• Bluegrass Jam. On June 19 from 6:30 to 8:30p.m., bluegrass
players and fans are welcome to make some noise.
Woodstock Anniversary Program
The Timmons brothers, rock-and-roll historians, will present a
program on the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, “A Look Back at
August 1969,” at 2:30 p.m. June 30 in the meeting room (lower level)
at Mount Sterling Public Library, 60 W. Columbus St.
