Archaeological Society<br />

The Darby Creek chapter of the Archaeological<br />

Society of Ohio will meet <strong>June</strong> 18 at<br />

the Oak Run Township Hall building, 7090<br />

Gregg Mill Road, located at the corner of<br />

State Route 56 and Gregg Mill, five miles<br />

east of London. Socializing and snacks start<br />

at 5:30 p.m. followed by the program at<br />

p.m. Professor Lance Greene of the Wright<br />

State University will talk about his archaeological<br />

finds and the 1780 Battle of Peckuwe.<br />

A chapter meeting will follow the<br />

presentation. All are welcome to attend and<br />

bring in Native American and early pioneer<br />

artifacts for discussion.<br />

• Family STEAM Night: Rainforest Ramble.<br />

At 6 p.m. <strong>June</strong> 19, Prairie Oaks will<br />

bring amphibians and reptiles to the library.<br />

Each registered child will receive a<br />

bracelet made with a rainforest seed.<br />

• Summer Reading Cruise. The next stop<br />

is Easter Island at 10:30 a.m. <strong>June</strong> 21. A<br />

free pizza lunch for children follows at noon.<br />

• Book Boot Camp. At 11 a.m. on Tuesdays,<br />

the library hosts physically active book<br />

readings and songs for children ages 3-10.<br />

• Black Holes. At 2 p.m. <strong>June</strong> 17, the<br />

Armstrong Air & Space Museum will present<br />

a hands-on program using balloons and<br />

aluminum foil to teach how black holes are<br />

formed and their basic physical concepts.<br />

• Kindergarten Camp. From 5:30 to 7:30<br />

p.m. <strong>June</strong> 17, children entering kindergarten<br />

can practice sitting and listening,<br />

lining up, taking turns and packing a book<br />

bag, and more. Snack provided.<br />

• Cookbook Club. Club members make<br />

recipes from a select cookbook or cookbook<br />

author and share them. The next session is<br />

at 7 p.m. <strong>June</strong> 19.<br />

• Space Crafts. All ages are welcome to<br />

make alien spaceships, planet suncatchers<br />

and straw rockets from 2 to 3 p.m. <strong>June</strong> 24.<br />

• Portable Planetarium. The Boonshoft<br />

Museum will set up a portable planetarium<br />

at the Mount Sterling Community Center,<br />

164 E. Main St. Learn about planets, the<br />

moon, stars, constellations and more. Show times are 1 p.m., 1:45<br />

p.m. and 2:30 p.m. <strong>June</strong> 17. Recommended for ages third grade and<br />

older. Space is limited for this library-sponsored event. The library<br />

is giving out tickets.<br />

• Unexpected Flying Objects. Tony Steinbach brings his comedic<br />

juggling and magic act to the Mount Sterling Community Center,<br />

164 E. Main St., at 1 p.m. <strong>June</strong> 21. Sponsored by the library.<br />

• Patriotic Summertime Sip & Paint. The Friends of the Library<br />

are hosting this artistic event from 1 to 4 p.m. <strong>June</strong> 30 at American<br />

Legion Post 417, 27 N. Clark St., Mount Sterling. The cost is $35<br />

and includes supplies and lessons by Mary Davis. Payment is due<br />

at the time of registration at the library.<br />

• Ladies Night Out. Watch a recently released movie at 6:30 p.m.<br />

<strong>June</strong> 24. Bring a potluck dish to share.<br />

Parade<br />

The London Community Organization and the city of London will<br />

host a Fourth of July parade on July 4. Lineup is at 10 a.m. The parade<br />

steps off at 11. Anyone who would like to participate in the parade<br />

is asked to fill out and turn in a registration form by <strong>June</strong> 28.<br />

Forms are available at city hall, 20 S. Walnut St., London. For details,<br />

Patriotic Service<br />

United Church, 30 E. Main St., Mount Sterling, will hold a patriotic<br />

service at 7 p.m. <strong>June</strong> 28. Pastor Dan Shipley will lead the<br />

service. The public is welcome.<br />

• Virtual Reality: Space. On <strong>June</strong> 18, choose from a variety of<br />

space-themed virtual reality experiences, including a trip aboard<br />

Apollo 11, Mars Odyssey, Star Wars Droid Repair Bay, and a tour<br />

of the International Space Station. Registration is required. Times<br />

are by appointment.<br />

• Astronomy Academy: A COSI Workshop. At 2 p.m. <strong>June</strong> 19,<br />

set course for the stars with this astronomical engineering experience<br />

for kids who have complete grades three and up. Participants<br />

will explore the solar system, construct a classroom-sized model of<br />

the planets, and take on the role of aerospace engineer to tackle the<br />

design process to design, build, test and redesign extreme paper<br />

rockets and space bases. Registration is required.<br />

• Bluegrass Jam. On <strong>June</strong> 19 from 6:30 to 8:30p.m., bluegrass<br />

players and fans are welcome to make some noise.<br />

Woodstock Anniversary Program<br />

The Timmons brothers, rock-and-roll historians, will present a<br />

program on the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, “A Look Back at<br />

August 1969,” at 2:30 p.m. <strong>June</strong> 30 in the meeting room (lower level)<br />

at Mount Sterling Public Library, 60 W. Columbus St.<br />
