FINCHUM<br />

Allen Finchum passed away at Doctors West Hospital in Columbus,<br />

surrounded by family on <strong>June</strong> 4, <strong>2019</strong>. He is survived by: his<br />

children, Eric (Julie) Finchum of Galloway and Kimberly Roberson<br />

of Hamden; his sister, Joyce Robertson of London; his brothers,<br />

Michael (Judy) Finchum of London, Lonnie (Vicki) Finchum of London,<br />

David (Judy) of South Charleston, Jeffrey (Georgeann)<br />

Finchum of Findlay, and Rick Finchum of London; his brother-inlaw,<br />

Gary (Letha) Crow of Elyria; his grandchildren, Holly (Colton)<br />

Plumb of Richlands, N.C., Jeremy (Christen) Finchum of Galloway,<br />

and Emily (Sean) Waldo of Columbus; his great-grandchildren,<br />

Nolan Plumb of Richlands, N.C., Naomi Plumb of Richlands, N.C.,<br />

and Chloe Finchum of Galloway; and many nieces,nephews and<br />

close friends. He is preceded in death by: his parents, Alonzo and<br />

Myrtle Finchum of London; his wife of 56 years, Sharon Crow<br />

Finchum of London; his sisters, Jewel (Jim) Murry of Springfield<br />

and Thelma (Glendon) Swan of South Charleston; his brother-inlaw,<br />

Kenneth Robertson of London; his mother and father-in-law,<br />

John and Marie Crow of McArthur; his sister-in-law, Suzanne<br />

(John) Sowers of McArthur; and his son-in-law, Alfred Roberson Jr.<br />

of Hamden. Allen was born on April 21, 1937, in London. He graduated<br />

from <strong>Madison</strong> Rural High School in 1955 and from Ohio University<br />

in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in business. He married<br />

Sharon in 1960. After welcoming two children into their home, he<br />

became a selfless example of a loving father and husband, teaching<br />

his strong sense of values and faith in God. He had certification as<br />

a chartered life underwriter and belonged to Toastmasters International.<br />

Allen also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling.<br />

He was a beloved and honorable man, respected by those he<br />

worked with and family alike. Services were held <strong>June</strong> 8 at Eberle-<br />

Fisher Funeral Home and Crematory, London, with Rev. Jeff Smalley<br />

officiating and interment at Paint Township Cemetery.<br />

Donations may be made to Pilot Dogs, 625 W. Town St., Columbus,<br />

OH 43215. The family thanks the staff at Doctors West Hospital<br />

ICU, Dr. Tom Peponis, and members of Newport United Methodist<br />

Church for their caring support.<br />

HOLLY<br />

Rheta Holly, 90, of London died on <strong>June</strong> 4, <strong>2019</strong>. She<br />

was born in Mellin, W.Va., on May 22, 1929, to Henry<br />

P. and Sarah Elsie (Moore) Williamson. Rheta is survived<br />

by: her daughter, Jana K. Holly of London; son,<br />

Carlton E. Holly of Clintonville; and a brother, James<br />

Williamson of West Virginia. She is preceded in death<br />

by: her parents; husband, Harold “Herkimer” Holly; sisters,<br />

Ruth Dennison, Mildred Bonar, Elma Bunner,<br />

Edna Shepard, Pearl Carpenter, Cora Stanley and<br />

Sylvia Williamson; brothers, Charlie, Virgil, Howard<br />

and John Williamson. Services were held <strong>June</strong> 10 at<br />

Rader-Lynch and Dodds Funeral Home and Crematory,<br />

London, with Pastor Mark Schroder officiating. Burial<br />

was in Kirkwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may<br />

be made to the Humane Society of <strong>Madison</strong> County.<br />

OOTEN<br />

Ruby Nell (Caines) Ooten, 86, of Florida, formerly of<br />

West Jefferson, died on <strong>June</strong> 5, <strong>2019</strong>. Ruby and her husband,<br />

Carlos, owned and operated Ooten Insurance Co.<br />

in West Jefferson for many years. Ruby is preceded in<br />

death by her son, David Ooten, and brothers, David<br />

Caines, Ralph Caines and Esmond Caines. Ruby is survived<br />

by: her loving husband of 71 years, Carlos S.<br />

Ooten; daughter, Diane (JR) Grimmett; sister, Virginia<br />

O'Brien; and sister-in-law, Mildred Caines. Ruby’s<br />

grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss her<br />

dearly. Funeral services were held <strong>June</strong> 14 at Rader-<br />

McDonald-Tidd Funeral Home, West Jefferson. A celebration<br />

of Ruby's life was held at the Veterans of<br />

Foreign Wars Post 7005 following services. Interment<br />

took place at Hampton Cemetery, West Jefferson.<br />

BYRD<br />

Harold Gene “Bug” Byrd, 71, of London died on <strong>June</strong><br />

6, <strong>2019</strong>, in his residence. Born on Oct. 25, 1947, in<br />

Columbus, Ohio, he was a son of Herschel and Mary<br />

(Herman) Byrd Sr. He was a 1967 graduate of London<br />

High School, where he played on the football team. He<br />

was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in<br />

Vietnam. He retired after working 26 years at London<br />

Correctional Institution. He loved his sons, unconditionally<br />

supporting them 100 percent. He cherished his family<br />

and was always just a phone call away. He is also<br />

known for his love for the team up North (Michigan)<br />

which he expressed by displaying decals on his cars and<br />

in his yard. We cannot forget the Friday nights he spent<br />

sitting around the card table playing quarter to 50-cent<br />

poker with the girls. He is survived by: his sons,<br />

Frankie (Geraldine) Byrd and Andre Byrd Sr.; grandchildren,<br />

Andre, Jr, Dre’Vaun, Aaren, Tanner, Kye and<br />

Macie; brother, Louie of London, Herschel (Dimitira) of<br />

Urbana; stepbrother, Charles Whitelow, Columbus; and<br />

a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was<br />

preceded in death by: his parents, Herschel and Mary<br />

(Herman) Byrd, Sr.; stepmother, Helen (Whitelow)<br />

Byrd; daughter, Crystal Byrd; brothers, James “Cannonball”<br />

Byrd and Alfred “Butch” Wilson; and sister,<br />

Evelyn Scurry. Services were held <strong>June</strong> 14 at Fountain<br />

of Truth Ministries, London, with Pastor Keith Wilson<br />

as the officiant and Pastor Tyrone Artis as the eulogist.<br />

HARFORD<br />

Jean Harford, 67, of West Jefferson died on <strong>June</strong> 6,<br />

<strong>2019</strong>, surrounded by her loving family. Jean loved her<br />

flowers, reading, cooking, and spending time with her<br />

family and grandkids. She was preceded in death by her<br />

parents, Horace and Martha Copeland, and brother,<br />

Ernest. She is survived by: her loving husband of 50<br />

years, Donald; daughters, Tanya (Richard) Harrell,<br />

Susan (John) Harrell; son, Jimmy (Tracy) Harford; and<br />

numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Following<br />

the family’s wishes, cremation took place. The<br />

family was served by Rader-McDonald-Tidd Funeral<br />

Home, West Jefferson.<br />

KEPLINGER<br />

Judy Keplinger (Penwell) Dye, 59, of Jeffersonville<br />

died on <strong>June</strong> 6, <strong>2019</strong>, in Miami Valley Hospital. Born<br />

on <strong>June</strong> 7, 1959, in Washington Court House, she was<br />

a daughter of James and Frances (Bennett) Keplinger.<br />

Judy was a former KJ/DJ with Dave & Judy’s Karaoke.<br />

Survivors include: her husband of 27 years, David Dye;<br />

son, Michael Keplinger (Kayla Duncan); daughter,<br />

Shannon Penwell (Bryan Whitt); 12 grandchildren and<br />

one great-grandson; nieces and nephews, Luke<br />

(Heather) Keplinger, Ben Keplinger, Kim Gauley and<br />

Jordan (Brian) Shaw; a host of great-nieces and greatnephews;<br />

and sister-in-law, Donna Keplinger. She was<br />

preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Rick<br />

Keplinger; son, Jeromy; and daughter, Brandi. Funeral<br />

services were held <strong>June</strong> 13 in South Solon Church of<br />

Christ in Christian Union with Rev. Gordon Ell officiating.<br />

RHEINSCHELD<br />

Naomi E. Rheinscheld, 85, of Mount Sterling died on<br />

<strong>June</strong> 7, <strong>2019</strong>, at Carriage Court in Washington Court<br />

House. Born to the late James and Mary Trigg, she was<br />

a graduate of Mount Sterling High School, Class of 1952.<br />

Naomi was a homemaker her whole life. She married<br />

the love of her life, Floyd Rheinscheld, on Aug. 22, 1952.<br />

Naomi was a life-long member of First United Methodist<br />

Church and was a part of the Methodist Women. She<br />

was also a Sunday school teacher in her earlier years<br />

and a member of the Participators Class. Naomi also<br />

was involved in delivering Meals on Wheels. Naomi was<br />

preceded in death by her parents and sister, Joan Emrick.<br />

She is survived by: her beloved husband, Floyd, and<br />

their children, Kathy (John) Haynes of Mount Sterling,<br />

Jim (Judy) of Mount Sterling, Roger (Paulette) of Washington<br />

Court House, Darryl (Patty) of Mount Sterling,<br />

Linda (Tom) Pryor of Mount Sterling, Doug (Karen) of<br />

Stoutsville, and Mike (Amy) of South Charleston; 19<br />

grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren; sister, Jane<br />

Green of Mount Sterling; special niece, Beulah (Jerry)<br />

Tipton; and many other loving relatives and friends. A<br />

funeral service was held <strong>June</strong> 12 at Porter-Tidd Funeral<br />

Home, Mount Sterling with Rev. Dortha Ross officiating.<br />

Burial followed at Pleasant Cemetery.
