Independence Day (the Fourth of July) is a federal holiday
in the United States commemorating the Declaration of
Independence of the United States on July 4, 1776.
The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen
American colonies were no longer subject (and
subordinate) to the monarch of Britain and were now
united, free, and independent states. The Congress had
voted to declare independence two days earlier, on July 2,
but it was not declared until July 4.
If you want to guard against loss from a
storm or accident, it helps to be insured by a
company who’s on your team. Kentucky Farm
Bureau is Kentucky’s insurance company,
which means there’s an agent in every county
to provide the winning service you deserve.
DID YOU KNOW?
• The SS Edmund Fitzgerald
was an American Great
Lakes freighter that sank in a
Lake Superior storm on November
10, 1975, with the
loss of the entire crew of 29.
Canadian folksinger Gordon
Lightfoot inspired popular
interest in this vessel with his
1976 ballad, “The Wreck of
the Edmund Fitzgerald.”
• The Mayflower Barn at
Jordans, Buckinghamshire,
England was not made from
the Pilgram ship of the same
name as it was once suggested.
In 1624, when the
ship (The Mayflower) was
scrapped, it was not at all famous,
and nobody would
have thought twice about letting
it rot away.
• There are no known relics
of the (La) Nina or Pinta, and
an anchor of the Santa Maria,
is one of the only relics still
in existence from the three
fabled ships.
