Street Art in Ruins
During the site visit, many
graffiti was found in the ruins.
After research and interview, I
supposed that Shanghai’s first
famous ruin graffiti started from
the other ruin near our site. It
seems that it encouraged and
inspired many other artists of
creating beauty together with the
ruins. And many of the graffiti
shows locals emotion; they want
better living condition and they
do not really want to leave their
home. However, by now most of
them had been demolished, for
they were attracting people to
visit the ruin and the government
wants no issue, especially safety
ones.
Although the artist might hold
the opinion that street art lives a
short life, I think that it could be
a pity that there is not too much
interaction between these graffiti
and local residents. Therefore, I
want to create a new community
for the original local residents,
cooperating with space for
the artists and where people
all could share and enjoy the
graffiti.
