x RISKXtra Risk in Action Risk in Action PAC proves to be tower of strength at London’ s mixed use Sutton Point development Located in South West London on the site of a former office block, Sutton Point is a cutting-edge mixed use development that features contemporary apartments surrounded by a diverse range of amenities. In order to provide residents with the highest level of security, access control technology from PAC (part of the Stanley Products & Solutions Group) has been installed in key areas of the complex. After the full demolition of an existing tower, the space now comprises three main structures – the East Tower, the Centre Tower and the West Tower. Within them are 332 one and two-bedroom apartments, a number of three-bedroom luxury penthouses, 21,000 ft 2 of retail space, 18,000 ft 2 of office space and a 150-bedroom hotel, as well as a health and fitness centre, roof gardens, a cinema, shops and cafés. Following on from a thorough tender process, Harrow-based security systems and building technology integrator Interphone Limited was appointed to design, specify and install a fully-integrated security system. This included an optical fibre infrastructure, door entry, networked CCTV, an integrated reception system and access control. The access control solution needed to integrate with all other elements of the security system, so it was essential for Interphone to have highly responsive working relationships in place with its key technology partners. Easily configured to operate on a standalone PC or across a corporate network, SecureNet displays detailed real-time event information from a given facility. At Sutton Point, it’s configured to enable all management tasks related to the tenants and staff to be administered from a central computer as and when required, thereby ensuring the highest levels of security around the site. Integrated perimeter protection helps to secure Wales & West Utilities’ gas distribution Six Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) utilities sites across South West England and Wales have been secured from terrorist attacks and ongoing criminal threats in a £3.25 million security project. Gas distributor Wales & West Utilities appointed principal contractor Chubb Systems and Littlewood Fencing to work collaboratively on a fully-integrated perimeter protection upgrade. Alvin Lewis, operations manager at CSG Fire and Security (the company that installed the system) states that the customer has been impressed by the new panel. “We’ve worked with Kentec panels exclusively for about 15 years now and the latest version is the best one we’ve installed. From our point of view, it’s very easy to install. Our engineers very rarely have any issues with it. Technology in Focus Technology in Focus Heald’s award-winning Matador sliding bollard range excels in double crash tests Heald has announced the success of two recent crash tests for Matador, the company’s award-winning sliding bollard system. The firm – which is based in Hornsea, East Yorkshire – designs and manufactures a range of products and solutions to protect highprofile buildings and pedestrianised areas from the ongoing threat of vehicle-borne attacks. Heald’s HT3-Matador 4, which had already been crash-tested to PAS 68 standards, has achieved a new record with an IWA crash test against a 7.2-tonne N2A specification truck travelling at a recorded speed of 80 kph (50 mph). The latest configuration, the HT2-Matador 6, consists of four central moving bollards and two fixed bollards to accommodate access for large vehicles or tight turning circles and has succeeded in its PAS 68 crash test, halting a 7.5- tonne truck travelling at a recorded speed of 64 kph (40 mph). www.heald.uk.com IDIS introduces DirectIP Super Fisheye 5 MP Compact camera as extension to range IDIS has launched the DirectIP Super Fisheye 5 MP Compact camera (DC- Y6513RX), thereby further extending its popular Super Fisheye range.
