Steve Crimlisk is a portrait artist based in Tavistock, Devon. Steve
recognised his skill for drawing at a young age and has covered a range
of subjects, predominately animals. A long-standing and much-loved
subject for Steve and over time he has broadened the variety of his work. Living within
a close proximity to the beauty of Dartmoor has lent itself greatly to the themes of
creatures and wilderness. Steve uses charcoal and pencil in most of his work, capturing not
only likeness but also character and tangibility.
Continuing my journey, I am delighted to join my fellow artists at Kelly Bray
this year. I am exploring the use of resins, in addition to using textiles, Tyvex, wet felting and stitch. The possibilities are endless, I
am looking forward to seeing you all…
Having a love of traditional Chinese Art, I studied xieyi (free style) Chinese
painting with Plymouth artist Li Xaio Bai, using traditional Chinese brushes, paper,
ink and colour. It is a very calming art form, but control of the brush to achieve
the desired results needs concentration!
