We know you are performing in an upcoming film with an
interesting cast: tell me more about your role in it and what
the film is about.
My character name is Ron “Chubbs” Hendricks! I am the Comic
Relief in such a Heartsore film. It’s about a comeback story,
a man who was a promising basketball star who had a Transient
career due to alcoholism; he loses so much and ends up
regrouping and gaining it back through the youth of a basketball
team. He ends up growing to love them after an Augean
grueling path.
The story line revolves around basketball. Was that a sport
you used to play ? If not, what are some obstacles you encountered
in preparing for the film?
I did not play basketball growing
up. I sucked. You’d think that I
would’ve gotten better after months
of hard vigorous training! It’s honestly
sad when I had to workout
in front of the athletic coordinator
for the movie I went to the 99
cent store and bought an ugly cast
and taped it around my hand so if
I sucked (which I did) I would have
an excuse and it worked!! It was
just hard going to practice seeing
everyone better than me but I
worked hard in trying to look like I
knew what I was doing
I heard you met with some great
cast members. As you are at the
start of your career, how was it
playing in a film alongside Ben
Affleck?
He is the most amazing, nicest,
most genuine person I have ever
met, and I’m not just saying that I
actually mean it I love that man to
death. He “adopted” me. I’m his
son now: ask him he’ll tell you he
has given me so much game to this
business and I feel so special to
even be in his inner circle and hang
out with him, we’re really close. I
was talking to him yesterday and
I’m still in ahhhh. I hope to work
with him again he’s really like a father figure.
Was there a specific person or event that inspired you to
become an actor?
Growing up I loved Will smith and Leonardo DiCaprio--I idolized
them. I watched them religiously as they were my favorite
actors. I loved Denzel as well; those men have such have such
a command onscreen that forces you to keep your eyes on
them. Obviously, there are tons of people I can name but those
are my favorites growing up!
Tell me more about yourself. What are some of your favorite
hobbies?
Man I am a simple guy I love to listen to music, I loveeeeee
watching movies and reading screenplays!! hang out with
friends, workout, I am a video game addict and love to party! I
just can’t be bored!!!!
What are some key lessons you have learned over the last
year?
I use to hear that “patience is a virtue” and it sound like this
stupid cliche saying that keeps people’s hopes alive but it’s
actually true especially with the cinema industry. It’s hard to
become a movie star but if you have a dream and really believe
in it and have patience it will come: every no is one step closer
to a yes! Even I used to get down after I didn’t book roles that I
really wanted but now I just brush it off and move on. Some of
the roles I auditioned for wasn’t even close as big as the movie
I did now, I did a few tv show auditions and I thought that it was
the end of the world and BOOM a movie came up. Another thing
I learned is always stay prepared and don’t be afraid to take
risks it’s always better to be prepared and not have the opportunity
then to have the opportunity
and not be prepared I always have
the five P’s proper preparation prevents
poor performance. Never
be afraid to take risks!! If you take
them and it doesn’t work out so
be it! You only miss the shots you
don’t take you never know what
might happen ALWAYS TAKE THE
RISK!! Especially if it’s something
you believe in.
If you could pick any role to play
in the future, what would it be?
What kind of movie would you
like to be in?
I just want to show my versatility
in roles and wanting to show how
ambidextrous I am. I feel confident
enough that I can play multiple
genres and characters! But if I
had to narrow it down, at the moment
I want to do something like
Kingsman Secret Service it seems
like something cool to show and
it looked a lot of fun to be a secret
agent would also wolf of Wall
Street, 21 jump street, that Godzilla
movie that came out, comedies,
but I also loved the role in I am legend
I can go on good fellas, Phillip
Seymour Hoffman in the master,
raging bull, Lawrence of Arabia,
rain man, there will be blood,Django
Moonlight, When they See us, the list can go on!!
Growing up, had you ever imagined you would become an
actor? If not, what did you dream of becoming?
It sucks to say I didn’t, I played football I always wanted to be
a professional athlete if that didn’t work I was going to become
a business owner. I wanted to own my own nightclub like my
father did. I was so close, we found the building, had the start
up money and everything but I booked the movie!! but growing
up people always told me I should become an actor. I’ve always
had comparisons throughout my career that I will be the
next will smith from casting directors and other people I mean
who wouldn’t have want have a career like his, his career is a
template for a lot of people. so it was definitely something I
had in the back of my mind and I always loved movies and cinematography
it would’ve happened regardless this was meant
to happen I feel. would go to the church choir while they were
singing and conduct at 2 years old my mom still has the video
ahaha!! I’ve always been a character.
