bRiEF: To Restore the roof of New Place
in banstead to its former glory
“We were engaged to re-roof this magnificent Arts & Crafts
Mansion and told to take whatever time was needed to make it
perfect. The project involved stripping and replacing all 50,000
hand-made clay tiles, renewing the felt and batten, upgrading the
insulation and renewing seven tonnes of leadwork.
The project took five months and we were very proud when it
won the Double Lap tiling Award 2015 at The National Roofing
Awards & The Worshipful Company of Bricklayers prestigious
Triennial Award for Excellence in Roof Tiling in 2017.”

A rich but soft coloured tile
was chosen to blend beautifully
with the golden oak and the
black frame of the roof lights. As
a bespoke design the client chose
to include oak trusses and oak
collars to create a stunning effect
in the internal roof space.”
