Get ready for a bicycle-powered
production of Shakespeare’s
Much Ado About Nothing, as the
fantastically named Handlebards
cycle into Tonbridge this month.
The world’s first cycling theatre
company, The Handlebards, began life
in 2013 as a group of entrepreneurial
friends with a shared passion for
sustainability and travelling theatre.
Since then they have pedaled over
8,200 miles across the whole of the
UK, taking with them all the set, props
and costumes needed. They have
performed environmentally friendly
Shakespeare to over 70,000 people in
castles, gardens, museums, bicycle
yards and public amphitheatres.
This all-male troupe are heading
to Tonbridge School’s EM Foster
Theatre on Tuesday 6 August to
perform Shakespeare’s riveting tale of
romance, rivalry and riotous humour.
In usual Handlebards style, audiences
can expect splendid amounts of energy,
a fair old whack of chaos, and a great
deal of laughter.
