Pretoria
Weather
The Crawford
Pre-Primary
Pretoria Grade
000s have been
inquiring into
the International
Baccalaureate
Transdiciplinary
theme, How
The World Works. They’ve been
looking at nature and the patterns
in nature. The Grade 000s inquired
into the understanding of weather
and especially extreme wind, and
the impact such weather has on our
environment. They followed the
case study of the recent cyclone in
Mozambique and looked at what
happened after the cyclone, and how
we could help.
Crawford Pre-Primary North Coast
Imagination Tree
Using their collaboration skills,
the Grade 00 pupils at Crawford
Pre-Primary North Coast
partnered up to create a magical
tree that could grow anything
the imagination desires. Using
their de Bono Green Hat they
designed a variety of spectacular
trees, including rainbow, cupcake
and car trees to name a few.
Maps
The Crawford Pre-Primary Grade 00 Class
explored maps and their functionality in
the world. The students looked at the
map of the world and discussed what
they knew about maps. They investigated
how to get from the gate to their class.
They walked along the path and stopped
Crawford Pre-Primary Pretoria
along the way discussing all the important
landmarks. Once back in class the students then drew their own maps to
their classroom.
Show and Tell
Being the teacher is great – we get to come
to school every day and teach children new
things and show them how the world works.
When the students got to be “teachers” for
the day, they taught the other pupils about
the different life cycles that we could find. It
was so much fun doing research with parents
and then communicating our findings back
to the class. Being a teacher really is fun!
Crawford Pre-Primary Sandton
The Crawford Village Chick Class, the Grade 0000s, were given
the opportunity to engage in pretend play as we discussed
what they would like to be when
they grow up. They deepened
their understanding of the different
types of careers that are a part of
their lifeworld. This activity invited
plenty of conversation and learning
through play. It’s been found that
when young children use their
imaginations in play, they’re more
creative, perform better at school
and develop a strong problemsolving
approach to Crawford Village
learning.
Nature
The Grade 000 pupils at Crawford
Pre-Primary North Coast went on
a nature walk where they worked
in pairs to explore different plants.
They used their communication
and co-operative skills to identify
and collect items pertaining to the
theme and were encouraged to use
their logical thinking and reasoning
skills to discuss if the items they
found originated from plants. The
students created a nature collage
after sorting, grouping and counting
their findings.
Discovery is the best way of
learning!
We are scientists and we get to
explore all day. We use cool gadgets
and equipment to zoom right into
things we find in and around the
garden and we love learning new
and exciting information about all
the items we find. Scientists get
to explore all day and then learn
more all the time. We have the best
dream job!
Dreams
What do you dream of
becoming one day? The
Grade 000s at Crawford
Village dressed up as their
career of choice. This was
an opportunity for them
to pretend to be anybody
they wished to be. Some
of our three year olds
dream of becoming a
doctor or a firefighter!
