But where do you begin? And how can you ensure you’re not spending your hard-earned money trying to achieve the seemingly unachievable? We caught up with interior designer Preet Anand, of Mere Green-based Mood Interiors, to talk about why opting to hire an experienced interior designer might actually be more cost-effective than you might think. “I’m often approached by clients who want their home to have the wow factor, but don’t know where to start. Many people have already had a go themselves and spent considerable sums on interiors that don’t give them the result they’d hoped for, or have purchased expensive pieces that have quickly gone out of fashion,” says Preet. “One of the examples I like to use here is the yellow and grey trend. Used correctly, it’s a fantastic colour combination, but it’s now so popular that it has lost its luxurious and exclusive feel. “Striking the balance between luxury, exclusivity and practicality is a fine art – and by basing your interiors on what’s hot right now, might mean you’re investing in new interiors every three to four months. “For most of us, this approach isn’t possible. So, when working with my clients, I always ensure that the starting point is finding out as much as I can about them. This means I am able to create a luxurious space that truly reflects their personality, and one that they love for years to come. “This approach is far more sustainable, and really showcases what a person or family is all about.” So, what exactly does an interior designer do? “Many people are surprised to learn that, as an interior designer, you wear many hats.
