Road traffic trauma roadshow Key emergency personnel will speak at the Road Traffic Accident Trauma Charitable Trust road show in Ashburton on Wednesday, September 11. The road show will be at the Balmoral Hall, Cameron Street, Ashburton, at 7pm. Ashburton fire chief Alan Burgess, paramedic Stuart Cooper, police officer Steve Burgerhout, intensive care nurse Alice Brown and Sarah Dean, founder of the trust, will speak. The road show is an opportunity to hear the stories of first responders and to find ways to help those facing trauma. Some speakers will highlight and provide an insight into the effects road crashes have had on them, while also providing an insight into the support available. In 2003, SarahDean was involved in one serious and near fatal crash and another moderate crash 10 months later. She was injured in both. ‘‘What was so hard was that Ididn’t personally know anyone who had been involved in aroad crash. Ithen started to look for relevant support services, just anything, and there wasn’t. It was quite an isolating experience.’’ So she established the Road Traffic Accident Trauma Charitable Trust to ensure adequate support, education and advice was provided to those directly affected by road trauma. There isnocharge to attend, but agold coin would help with expenses.
