OLIVA is holding the
town’s XII Mostra Gastronomic
this month, a celebration
of Valencian and
Olivense gastronomy.
From the 16 to 19 September
the town’s schools will be
visiting the indoor market
where the students will be

Sunday 20 September is
World Paella Day and to
mark this occasion, chefs
will be making a giant paella
from 8pm on Paseig
Lluis Vives. The next day
there is the stuffed pepper
making competition, a typical
local dish. This is from
9.30 to 12.00 at the indoor
market.
Next Sunday (28 September)
is the figatell competition,
from 8.30pm at the
market, these being another
very traditional dish in the
area.
Santander
closures
Galicia burns
FIREFIGHTERS backed by
over a dozen aircraft battled
forest blazes raging in
Spain’s northwestern region
of Galicia at the end
of last week.
The fires cut motorways
and forced the evacuation of
several villages,

the wildfires destroyed over
500 hectares of forest.
In October 2017, Galicia
suffered from a wave of deadly
wildfires that were fanned
by gusty, shifting winds and
killed at least four people.
SANTANDER Bank has announced
the closure of a
dozen branches in the Valencia
and Murcia regions
in the first phase of of plan
to eventually shutdown
1,150 branches across the
country.
The bank declared the
first deck of 86 closures
last Friday, as it plans to
slash just over 3,700 jobs,
or around 11 per cent of its
workforce.
The measures are part of

profits on offer in Latin

In the spring, Santander
said it was looking a billion
euros of savings in Europe.

branches were closing were
