Welcome to St Joseph’s School
Hectorville, a place where
children’s passion for learning
is ignited and where diversity,
inclusivity and creativity are
embraced.
We are proud to offer a
nurturing community where
children are valued, loved and
respected. We create learning
experiences that recognise the
dignity of all children as highly
capable, and accomplished
human beings with enquiring
minds, imagination and a thirst
for knowledge.
We make a commitment
to our families that we will
engage children in learning
that is relevant, purposeful
and connected to their lives.
We foster a strong sense
of belonging, have high
expectations and support each
child to achieve their goals and
seek their best.
Our children are participants
in the 21st century and need
to understand themselves
as learners, learn to work
collaboratively, engage in
new technologies, learn
how to access new skills and
knowledge and develop the
skills of thinking creatively,
laterally and critically.

Our
School
Our school has a strong culture of
collaboration and cooperation, fostering
authentic partnerships with children,
families and the wider community.
Together, we develop a community filled
with hope, fun, friendship and rich learning.
Our Catholic vision and mission permeates
the life of the school. ‘In Omnibus Caritas’,
our motto – in all things love and kindness –
reflects the strong belief we have, that as
children of God we need to reflect God’s
love to our world through our attitudes,
words and actions. We encourage our
children to be just and responsible for our
community and environment through social
justice activities and ecological programs.
We invite you to visit our outstanding
learning community and share with us your
hopes and dreams, so that together we
may nurture the flourishing of your child.

Education
Approach
St Joseph’s Hectorville is at the forefront of
innovation and contemporary educational
practice. Inviting learning spaces with
cutting edge technology encourage
collaboration and best possible learning
outcomes for all students. We teach a
growth mindset approach and use explicit
instruction and inquiry approaches to
ensure all students are empowered to learn
and achieve.
Catholic
We educate the whole person, including
learning of God’s presence and tender love
for each child and all creation.
In our Christ Centred Community, founded
on the Josephite Tradition, we foster
relationships and encourage service to
others and care of the environment.
The experience and curiosity that children
bring to the learning process is listened to
and valued.

your
learning

A Rich
Curriculum
Teachers know their students well and develop differentiated
programs to meet the needs of students with the support of
a highly skilled team of Educational Support Officers. Gifted
and Talented Education at St Joseph’s recognises the needs
of gifted and talented students and endeavours to provide
both enrichment and extension opportunities.
STEM
We have a strong focus on providing
students with enriched learning
opportunities, through the integration
of information and Communication
technologies. We provide an environment
that embraces a contemporary digital
world, that encourages students to create,
communicate and collaborate both
locally and globally. Our commitment is
in preparing students, their futures and
the contribution they can make to our
community and the world.
Students have access to a suite of
publishing and creative tools that allow
them to demonstrate critical thinking
skills to enable them to find solutions to
real‐world problems.

The Arts
The Arts program at St Joseph’s,
Hectorville covers the five learning areas
of The Australian Curriculum, including
Drama, Dance, Music, Visual Art, and Media
Arts. We provide opportunities for students
to learn how to create, design, represent,
communicate and share their imagined and
conceptual ideas, emotions, observations
and experiences.
The arts can engage, inspire and enrich
all students, exciting the imagination and
encouraging them to reach their creative
and expressive potential. Students develop
non-verbal and verbal, individual and group
communication skills which cross over into
every area of the curriculum.
Students have many opportunities
throughout the year to share their
performance skills to the school and the wider
community. St Joseph’s is a proud participant
in Wakakirri and the Catholic Schools Music
Festival, giving students a fantastic experience
of live performance for a large audience.
your
Sport
The Sports Program is designed to provide the
fundamental movements patterns and skills required for
a range of physical activity tasks and sports. The aim to
provide opportunity to learn new skills and movements that
will prepare and allow understanding and mastery moving
into secondary learning. Not only are key skills and fitness
components developed, but more importantly the values of
teamwork, resilience and responsibility are acquired.
Soccer
& Netball
Academy
Soccer and Netball have always been a big
of the culture at St Joseph’s and has nurtured
players to go on and play at a high level
including some who have played professional.
The Soccer and Netball Academy allows
students to undertake soccer or netball
lessons in addition to their Physical Education.
The program consists of a weekly lesson as
well as optional after school sessions. The
focus is on developing students’ technical
ability and providing a game‐based
approach where fun and enjoyment for all
will be experienced.
Language
Specialisation
(Italian)
All students from Reception to Year 7 undertake Italian
lessons. Learning a language from a young age, assists in
having greater cognitive skills, problem solving and critical
thinking. The learning enhances memory and improves
multi-tasking abilities, all of which contribute to better
learning outcomes and employment opportunities.
As our society is becoming more globalised, learning other
languages connects us with other cultures, giving us a
deeper understanding and appreciation of humanity.
Life at School
We offer a positive learning environment,
where risk taking is promoted in a safe
and secure setting.
Student leadership is genuinely fostered
and a multitude of openings are
presented and undertaken for student
growth and development.
Extra-curriculum opportunities are
endorsed including: a myriad of sports,
STEM and Music.

Early
Learning
Your child can make a smooth transition
from playgroup, all the way through to
Year 6 graduation at St Joseph’s.
Playgroup
Playgroup is available for children 0 to
4 years of age who are not attending
Preschool. It is an opportunity for children
with their parents/caregivers to learn,
socialise and build friendships. Coming
along to playgroup supports children to
learn new skills.
Occasional
Care
We offer four sessions across the week for
children who have turned 3 years. Through
independent exploration, structured
activities and hands-on learning, children
are exposed to a variety of skills and
knowledge in literacy, numeracy, science
and social skills.
Preschool
The Preschool is an integral part of the
school. Our program for 4 year olds is
child centred with a particular emphasis
on learning through play and developing
literacy and numeracy skills.
Our Preschool aims to be a vibrant and
dynamic place of shared relationships
between children, educators and parents.
We hope to create a place of belonging in
a world that is alive, welcoming and where
authentic learning happens.
We believe children have potential, are
competent and capable of learning
individually and with others. We use the
Belonging Being and Becoming Curriculum
framework to guide our program.
Being able to progress through the stages
of education at the one school has many
advantages, including the sense of security
your daughters and sons will experience.
Preschool mid-year intake is also available
for children who turn 4 from 1st of May to
31st of October.
