The city of Ocoee celebrated
National Hispanic Heritage Month
from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to recognize
the diverse contributions of its
Hispanic and Latino residents. A
IN YOURNEIGHBORHOOD
proclamation of Hispanic Heritage
Month was read at the Ocoee City
As part of Ocoee’s celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Hispanic art is
displayed at the city’s town hall.
compiled by Lauren Salinero
Commission meeting in September.
Motorists traveling on Clarke Road
saw festive “Ocoee Celebrates
Hispanic Heritage Month” pole banners
along the street, and colorful
framed posters, featuring Hispanic
art, greeted visitors to Ocoee City
Hall. The city’s governmental station,
Ocoee TV, aired a series titled Latino
Americans: The 500-Year Legacy
that Shaped a Nation. The six-hour
documentary featured interviews
with nearly 100 Latinos, as well as
more than 500 years of history.
Ocoee residents have the chance
to give feedback about the city’s
parks and recreation programs. The
city is updating its Comprehensive
Plan and the Parks, Recreation, &
Trails Master Plan and is asking residents
to take an online community
survey. The survey, which the city
is conducting in partnership with
the East Central Florida Regional
Planning Council, will provide questions
focusing on city parks, recreation
and trails. The city is asking
citizens to give their thoughts on existing
parks, recreational programs
and special events. Results from the
survey will be used to guide future
decisions on programming and
how to improve the city’s park system.
Complete the survey online at
www.ocoee.org, under the “Quick
Links” menu. The survey will be open
through the end of this month.
