THE BURNHAM Chevaliers
dominance of Canterbury Rugby
League’s women’s premiership
has been recognised at the annual
awards night on Friday.
Burnham Chevaliers
completed the perfect
season, winning
the CRL women’s
premiership grand
final at Ngā Puna Wai
against Linwood Keas
34-22 in August at Nga
Puna Wai to complete
an unbeaten season.
Burnham received
the New City Hotel
Trophy for being the
round-robin winners
and the CRL Trophy for
winning the women’s premiership
final.
Burnham’s Cassie Siataga
received the women’s player of the
match trophy for her efforts in the
final.
She also received the award
for kicking the most goals in the
season with 41.
Siataga scored twice in the
grand final victory and added
three goals.
Burnham coach Scotty
MacDonald won the CRL Trophy
as the winning grand final coach.

school athletes are amongst the
nominations for the 29th Zonta
Awards which will be held at
the Hornby Working Men’s
Club tomorrow night.
The 29th Zonta Awards,
recognising the achievements
of Canterbury secondary school
athletes will be held on Thursday
at the Hornby Working
Men’s Club.
This annual event, initiated by
the Zonta Cub of Christchurch
South in 1990 as a service
project to celebrate the sporting
achievements of talented young
Cantabrians, is a highlight of
the year for award winners.
For many, recognition at the
awards heralds the beginning of
long-standing and highly successful
international careers.
New Zealand paralympic
swimming team coach Roly
Crichton will be guest speaker.
There were 163 nominations,
including teams, across six categories,
that were received from
24 schools in the School Sport
Canterbury Area, including
Kaikoura, North Canterbury
and the West Coast.
Rolleston College’s swimmer
Ella Benn is up for young
sportswoman of the year.
Darfield College cross-country
runner Nathan Carter is
nominated in the young sportsman
with a disability category.
Lincoln High School touch
referee Ben Weaver is in the
running for official of the year.
Lincoln High School’s Wil
Gualter is nominated for the
most outstanding individual
achievement honour.
Lincoln’s hockey and
equestrian exponent, Millie
Thompson is a chance to
win the all-round young
sportswoman category.
