THE BURNHAM Chevaliers<br />

dominance of Canterbury Rugby<br />

League’s women’s premiership<br />

has been recognised at the annual<br />

awards night on Friday.<br />

Burnham Chevaliers<br />

completed the perfect<br />

season, winning<br />

the CRL women’s<br />

premiership grand<br />

final at Ngā Puna Wai<br />

against Linwood Keas<br />

34-22 in August at Nga<br />

Puna Wai to complete<br />

an unbeaten season.<br />

Burnham received<br />

the New City Hotel<br />

Trophy for being the<br />

round-robin winners<br />

and the CRL Trophy for<br />

winning the women’s premiership<br />

final.<br />

Burnham’s Cassie Siataga<br />

received the women’s player of the<br />

match trophy for her efforts in the<br />

final.<br />

She also received the award<br />

for kicking the most goals in the<br />

season with 41.<br />

Siataga scored twice in the<br />

grand final victory and added<br />

three goals.<br />

nominations for the 29th Zonta<br />

Awards which will be held at<br />

the Hornby Working Men’s<br />

Club tomorrow night.<br />

The 29th Zonta Awards,<br />

recognising the achievements<br />

of Canterbury secondary school<br />

athletes will be held on Thursday<br />

at the Hornby Working<br />

Men’s Club.<br />

This annual event, initiated by<br />

the Zonta Cub of Christchurch<br />

South in 1990 as a service<br />

project to celebrate the sporting<br />

achievements of talented young<br />

Cantabrians, is a highlight of<br />

the year for award winners.<br />

For many, recognition at the<br />

awards heralds the beginning of<br />

long-standing and highly successful<br />

international careers.<br />

New Zealand paralympic<br />

swimming team coach Roly<br />

Crichton will be guest speaker.<br />

There were 163 nominations,<br />

including teams, across six categories,<br />

that were received from<br />

24 schools in the School Sport<br />

Canterbury Area, including<br />

Kaikoura, North Canterbury<br />

and the West Coast.<br />
