Major find at
ancient site
THE archaeological excavation
at Benidorm’s
Tossal de La Cala has
uncovered a metre long
amphora, which is completely
intact and has
been removed and transferred
to the University
of Alicante for further
studies.

An amphora was used for
the storage and transportation
of wine by the Romans,
and the site itself is an old
Roman fort.
Due to its size this relic
is believed to probably have
been ceremonial and is a
rare find, probably dating
back about 2,000 years and
made in a Cadiz pottery
factory.
The dig is in its last phase
before stopping for the winter
and forms part of Benidorm’s
campaign to show it
is more than a “sun, sea and
sangria” type resort.
Chinese course for the young

BENIDORM’S Youth Department
are organising a
course to learn the basics
of the Chinese language
and also about the country
itself, starting on 25
November and ending on
20 December.
Many young people are
now choosing to learn Chinese
as their second language
as it becomes increasingly
important globally,
especially for business.
The curriculum will include
teaching about Chinese
culture, basic vocabulary,
useful phrases and
grammar for beginners.

22 November.
The registration fee is
€40, and the course is from
8pm to 10pm Mondays to
Fridays.
